Wild Camping in Scotland

The CR Rhue (Highland) site overlooking the lighthouse, belongs to the crofters and one of the woman came out and said that you are not allowed to park overnight, I think she looks out each night.
The second one CR Strathcanaird (Highland) is a bad dirt track and if you have a big camper as we found out, you struggle to get past one of the cottages, we then decided enough was enough and found somewhere to turn around and get out quick, do not adviced this route.

Thanks for the info - I have removed the Rhue entry from the database, and added an advisory note about the other spot :)

Regards

Chris

Assuming this is the Rhue near Ullapool, I am intrigued at this...if it's not, just ignore me!
I use this regularly when catching the ferry and have never had a problem.
"Belongs to the crofters" is a strange thing to say as it is not part of the common grazing which is owned by the landlord but used by tenants who have a share in its use.
The Wester Ross local plan refers, specifically to the " the common grazing land near the car park at the west end of the settlement" when considering objections to development there www.highland.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/E30795B1-1416-4C6C-A3EC-5545BA324FD0/0/44.pdf
It also appears as a "car park" in the guide to walks around Ullapool......the objector referred to in the original posting may well be the owner of a holiday development at Rhue and, if so, is not a crofter

Further on this, the Council's Response to the Objectors, section 19 refers to the "public carpark" even if noting it to be "informal"

Yes it is this place - the Streetview image shows the 'usual' yellow no overnighting sign :(

Just run Google Earth and my streetview shows only a white "no access beyond this point" sign....can yours be a later picture? I'm not sure how this gets updated

Thanks for this....the sign must been a new arrival after my last stay there late March

The lady who said it belongs to the crofters, said the sign had blown down or something like that, she definately was looking look every night for campers as we got talking to a dog walker who lived locally and she said that she was getting worse for people parking at night, you can park there during the day.

On the same subject, Aviemore, we and two other campers got shifted from the Mc Donalds complex at the back of Tesco, last year we stayed there, this year there is a security man in a van going around, so no go.

What about the pulloff between the yellow sign and the white sign?

I probably wouldn't park there myself, too close to houses, but....
