Wild camping advice for a first timer

Hello

Hope someone can help me. I am hiring a camper as a suprise for my husand in May in the Devon/ Cornwall area. Could anyone give me some advice on the best places to wild camp? I have looked on the region threads for Cornwall & Devon but nothing comes up :confused

Hi Liz,

welcome to the site.

I would seriously talk to whoever you are hiring from, I suspect they will not allow you to wildcamp in their vehicle due to insurance.

They should however be able to supply a list of campsites in the area.

if this is a treat for hubby , what does he like to do ...eg , how about wilding in st just car park by the library , going to visit levant mine , national trust , rebuilt engine steams some days

are you going to drive him ?

as for not being able to wild , that is crazy ...you would be able to leave it alone in a car park and stay in a B&B wouldn't you ?

hi liz welcome to the site. i run the portsmouth arms hotel, we have a nice big car park where i allow wildcampers to park up for FREE.THE PORTSMOUTH ARMS HOTEL,DEVON Home - THE PORTSMOUTH ARMS HOTEL,DEVON no obligation to eat or drink, just come in and introduce yourselves. situated on the a377 approx 40 miles north of exeter and 12 miles south of barnstaple. beautiful location in the heart of the taw valley. tel 01769 561117.

It is a treat for my husband- he loves the outdoors so walking, cycling, boating etc. I will certainly take the St Just Car Park suggestion.

Secondly- we are sharing the driving. He would be devastated if he didnt get to drive the van :0)
