I expect when members are parking up they would like both of those descriptions, however they are becoming more difficult to find. Remembering last year's problems and the growing antipathy to motor home owners by councils I am concerned this year will also prove difficult.
Over the winter I have noticed many posts of overnight spots that have now got a banning order, or like Dover a £10 charge.
Over the last couple of years I have increasingly used the edge of towns and villages. During my covid exercise walks I have discovered dead end roads, small layby and quiet residential roads that would be ideal.
I am not sure of the legal aspect, and they are only suitable for overnight, but are a possible solution mixed in with many of our poi's.
I wonder what your thoughts are?

If you accept the compromise of spending your days in scenic locations and then overnighting in a nearby residential area, you can get the best of both worlds.
Places like the New Forest then become accessible for use by Wilders.
It's only necessary to leave the forest car parks, which are all free, by sunset which in summertime is quite late.
Is it such a problem to park in a nearby residential area, ideally flanking, just for the few hours of darkness?

Everyone to their own but not for me industrial estates and residential streets.
I prefer scenic remote locations everytime as far away from civilisation as possible.

Same here....
The whole reason I built a campervan then bought a motorhome was to find solitude in beautiful places...

And even at the busiest of times I've usually managed that...
Either in out of the way places OR sometimes on quiet carefully chosen sites,
Even paying a few quid to a friendly farmer etc....

Maybe we've just been lucky (or avoided overly popular places)
BUT only just last week on a work related visit to a farm chiller plant....
Got talking to the owner and now have a open welcome to a corner of one of the fields with hot and cold well stocked fishing pond a stones throw from the Artists valley in mid Wales for a couple of quid a visit.

There are many places we have overnighted but were just suitable for that.
Yes you can then find a day-time park-up.
But it is reall nice to find somewhere where you can stay 2 nights and the full day as well.
Tht is why the aires and stellplatz are so good
Facilities as well and cheap and often shops within walking distance !

Of course, that would be great, I too have enjoyed hundreds of nights on Aires, some scenic and some not so but there will never be such facilities, in any number, in the UK which is why I compromise and enjoy scenic daytime spots and tolerable overnight spots.

some industrial estates are quite pretty
We have had great views on industrial estates but don’t park near a haulage yard, distribution depots. When I was new to this I parked near Eddie Stobart and all they did was beep all night at me :(

Yep, Those that Know me also know i DONT / CANT do Cities, I even struggle with BIG Towns, So if I simply HAVE to go into either I more often than not head for a suitable Industrial estate.
Never had a problem yet in finding a spot for the night, or or some occasions even TWO nights.
Industrial estate parking for me just provides me an easy to get to place to serve a purpose to then get away again.
