Widcamping app for mobiles

Hi all,

I am exploring the possiblilty of a mobile app for wildcamping.co.uk full members. I am just trying to focus the idea a little so that I can move forward.

At the moment the app developement would be for Andriod devices, this is because it is now becoming the most used operating system with a wider range of devices supporting this. I am not excluding an apple app but it would not be the first developed.

So features.....

Search for wildcamping (and other) locations. I think it is important to include other locations like campsites incase there are no suitable locations in the area.

Add new locations including photo uploads. It would be good to have a feature that allows the adding of new locations and photos/details of them.

Comment on existing locations. add comments/photos as users visit locations already listed.

Forum intergration. allow users to se new posts and get private messages without having to use a web browser.

online updates to keep database on the device current and being able to select which part of the database to download based on geo location and type.


Any other suggestions or comments welcomed.

Sounds great Phil - you've got some great ideas, I'd definitely use it (if only I had the right phone ... but working on that!)

Hi Phil,

This sounds an excellent idea and I personally would definitely find such an app very useful.

If you are looking for ideas of other features besides just wildcamping spots; how about adding a list of suitable locations that other users have come across where we wildcampers can fill up with water or empty our loos? I am sure this would prove to be extremely welcome to many and app users could add to this list as they discover them.

Also another feature that may prove useful, especially to motorhomers who drive vans over a certain length, would be a list of supermarkets and car parks that others have come across during their travels, which provide ample access and parking space for longer length vehicles. I know when we are touring around in the motorhome, one of our problems is locating supermarkets where we can park up in order to do any shopping or trying to find a car park in a town, village or city which we fancy spending a few hours visiting.
