anybody know wich satnav works best with poi. currently got a sony wich does not work with it. halfods got half price sale on so going to get a new one. any suggestions

I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 and is VERY simple to update, I would say ANY major make e.g. Garmin or Tomtom will be a breeze, there is often a 'secondhand' map available for these on the internet which you won't find for the more obscure make & models. (I wouldn't bother with a Traffic master enabled sat nav again... by the time you've got to where the hold up is - it's gone! So I've NEVER hit the 'Divert' button having had a warning ahead notice.

Anybody had a better experience with TMC???

Garmin every time.

I've just bought a Nuvi 1340 from fleebay for £76, as new in its box. An ace bit of kit, highly recommended.

I bought my Garmin as it was less than half the thickness of the 'CRT TV' type Tomtom's however they are now thinner, but Garmin STILL make the thinnest sat nav in the world!

(Just to show the other side of the coin, our friends bought a Garmin and exchanged it for a TT as he couldn't get on with it????????????).

I have a Garmin nuvi 250w. I have tried everything to load on the Poi's. Followed Chris's instructions, downloaded everything I should. You name it and I have done it (I think so) Still nothing. So I have settled for the road map and to follow my nose.☺☺☺Before I forget, I am useless with modern gadgets and PC's

Pro Nav

I have a Truck Pro Nav bought of ebay FROM the manufactures who sell seconds. Apart from a tiny mark on the casing it works great allowing me to input my RV's size & weight thereby avoiding unsuitable roads AND the cost £130 There are also 6 months of free safety camera updates

I just bought a tomtom xl2 europe edition after being happy with a tomtom one for the past few years.

So far the jury is out, they now use an 'easymenu' which hides some of the old features and you need to create a 'custom menu' to regain some of these features. It also does NOT allow you to enter GPS coordinates apparently which is disappointing.

tom tom problems with POI

Hi David & Ann,

I have got the 250w and it works perfectly with the poi file. You did download the loader from garmin and use that to load the file from a PC. If so it should appear on your screen as extras

I have a Nuvi 660 and have loaded 7,600 POI's with no problems... and I'm a thicko at this sort of thing!

If you use the free Garmin POI Loader programme it does it all automatically, I have even managed to update my map from 2007 to 2011 for free (mind you it did take me 4 nights of downloading and trying until I got it right - but then I am a thicko!).

I am so pleased you have posted. I have been trying for yonks to download it onto my PC, with no luck. You have to remember I am as thick as nails when it comes to Computers. This is how far i have got: I have the Garmin POILoader in a file, with Winzip 7z920, google earth and google chrome. All 4 items are in a single file which I have named (Garmin Poiloader) I followed someone's instructions where I have opened google earth, then clicked in file then open, all that comes up is folders in "My Documents" WHAT DO I DO? i AM STUCK.
