We've been a member of both, Camping and Caravan Club is our preference. We like the mix of people on sites, tents, Vans, Motorhomes rich and poor, walkers bike cars etc etc you name it they are on the sites.

With the Caravan Club we definatley felt 'young' and our children unwanted on one site they even made a point of telling us the kids would not like it there then going on to tell us that they must not play with balls between the vans etc etc.

Whereas the CC&C club seem to be far more family oriantated. Also when on CC sites people seemed to disapear at dusk into their boxes and it feels like being on a housing estate whereas because many people are in tents on CC&C sites they stay outside and the 'campsite' feel remains late into the evening.

Both have a good network of Certified Locations and tbh this is what we may the money for now.

Both offer discounted insurance and overseas holidays.

For us its the friendly club everytime, I'm sure others will be along to agree or disagree :D

I am a member of the CC, it has advantages and its faults.

Your question has been asked before and my conclusion is pay yer money take your choice!!.

If you do a search I am sure you will find plenty of opinion over and above what peeps post in your thread.

Clubs

We are also a member of both clubs, we only joined the CC&C this year to give it a try, but will not be renewing.
We find the CC sites are a bit cheaper,
there are more sites in our area,
and they will allow you to book on-line for one night.
And regarding the FRIENDLY CLUB we found the rudest warden was one of theirs
I would avise you to look at both sites on line and see which has the most CL and CS and Club sites in the areas you might travel.

we are members of both clubs.
We use Red pennant insurance for travelling abroad(CC)
CCC have temporary sites which are a good price

Both have a good variety of cls

I joined the Caravan Club but only use their great value CL's not their sites. You need to be a member to use the CC Cl's but you dont need to be a member to use the CC&C's CL's so there is no point in me joining.

Marks right though. If you have kids the CC&C is supposed to be more friendly towards the little gits!

Never bothered to join any I wild stop when siuts and we quite like
rural farm like sites and avoid camps sites with hippo club
barney bears picnic:mad: I think you get the drift, not that I don't like
kids just could'nt eat a whole one:eek::eek:.........................

I can only speak with regard to the CCC. It is difficult to get on the popular sites since they get booked up well in advance. Booking early takes the spontaneity from camping. It would be far better if all site were members only but that would hit profits. I intend trying some of the CLs this year (wild camping wherever possible of course). If I cannot get on these sites (CLs) without booking early I shall not renew my membership next year. Clubs should be run for their members first and foremost.

Very few CL's need booking more than a courtesy phone call in advance. But there are popular spots and bank holidays can be difficult if you want specific things like ehu or kids playground but there are sites that never seen more than 1 visitor at a time all year :)

Unless adjacent to a landfill, worthy of support then.

I for one if I thought I would only have one guest would soon kick the investment of time alone in a cl into touch.

On this basis perhaps we should collectively attempt to support th cl's where we can ? i.eas a sanctuary when not wilding ?

Use it or lose it ...I think is the saying

You would wonder why they keep doing it, but I guess if you are a farmer with a field thats no use for anything else even a single £5 when you need only have a tap + chemical disposal is £5 more in the bank. There is a place near the CC site at Pandy that is just that, Pandy CC site is £15 per night and the CL is £5.. The CC site has a railway down one side the CL has a nice stream and no others using it. Guess where we will stay :D

I don't think there is any fear of loosing them, our fav site Welcome to Rowlestone Court recently became a CL and Mark the owner told us that there are plenty of people who try to get Certified they had to wait for a date to get a visit and it was quite tough to get the cert.

we are members of both clubs  have been for a lot of years in the last 2 seasons we have only been on one site  BUT it gives the wife the confidence to do what we do and how we do it :D i tell her if we can't get parked up safe luv we can phone a site no probs,so for 70 quid a year it's worth it.

We belong to The Camping and Caravan Club (CCC) mainly to use the Temporary Holiday Sites listed in the monthly mag. Very good value often around £5 per unit/night and always friendly.
Sites always supervised so no trouble and only open to members. Very few require advance booking. We usually just turn up at the site.

There are also plenty of small independant sites listed in the directory.

Permenant CCC owned sites are well maintained and equiped and also offer Motorhome stopovers where you can for £6 stay up to two hours and use all facilities, shower, water, waste disposal etc.
These sites can be busy and are very expensive especially in high season plus available to non-members. Not our first choice.

We were with both, the only thing I can add is that you will invariably come across some of the biggest assoles you will ever meet pretending to be 'important' wardens, I cann't tell you how pleased I was to learn that the self opinionated gendarme who looks after Uttoxeter site was gored by a bull in Benicassim a few weeks back, nothing serious unfortunately. If you enjoy being told what to do and when and where you can do it join either.

You need only have a tap + chemical disposal. The access must be 12ft wide and not down long single lane tracks and preferably not directly off an A road. Otherwise it is only necessary for the club to inform the local authority that it intends to issue a certificate.

I have been involved in this process on a number of occasions and as long as the site is not an eyesore on the landscape and there have been no breaches of planning, there should be no problem.

It is the club that is drawing out the process. We were able to do everything in 6 weeks from application. The local planners have to be given 28 days to raise any problems they can object only on grounds specified under the act. (ie Visual impact and access)

There are other clubs to try if one is being obstructive 10 are listed as holding paragraph 5 exemptions not just the big two. The Motor Caravanners' Club is celebrating its 50th year this year and they are also able to issue exemptions to certificated sites.

I'm not old enough to join that club they make the CC club members look positivly young ;)

I've not used many club sites, but found the warden at Moffat to be awful when camping there a few years ago (CCC site, allegedly the friendly club).

I was there for the classic car weekend when the site will always be full, but it's cost them long term as I would have organised camps there on several occasions since if they had been more friendly.

Incidentally the awful attitude was on arrival, so not due to any behaviour problems.

Sadly all clubs seem to have a few 'jobs worth and miserable' wardens. I wonder if they got the job thinking it would be 'all year round fun and camping' only to find they are mostly their as glorified cleaners.

(to those that have done the job i'm sure there is more to it than that i'm sure you understand what I mean.)

I'm a member of the C&CC. I chose this over the CC because it charges per person not per pitch. As a solo camper, the CC site fees would be too expensive for me.

I've always found the C&CC to be very friendly. On my first trip, I arrived to find the site flooded but they let me on and offered me a parking spot which was all I needed. On another occasion when I arrived at a flooded site in Scotland, I was allowed to park in the private lane just outside the site FOC yet have access to all facilities - and a friendly smile into the bargain.

However, I'm a wilder at heart and seldom use sites at all - except for when I'm desperate for a hot shower.
