Wi-Fi signal booster

I did not want to add this to the older post about wi-fi in case it got "Lost", but it sounds a good piece of kit (But don't they always?). I have emailed the seller to ask if it is suitable for use with a laptop with built in wireless and will post the reply too.

Wi-Fire HFWFG200-CE Wireless Adapter
Item number: 330400945308

I have just received a reply from the seller who says that as long as my laptop is running Windows, mac or Linux and has a usb socket this device will work. Sounds good!!

Looks like the Bizz, at 50 quid on ebay a nice piece of kit, I could do with that myself.

I hope you realise that it is not a connection to the internet, it's just a WiFi signal booster. The only way you can get on line with this while you're out in the van is to "borrow" someone else's connection.

Personally I think I'd go for a wifi mag mount antenna connected to a usb wifi adapter.

Seriously the tin can did not help but having the usb aerial mounted out side doubled the access points I can see, I think the walls on my motorhome might have an aluminuim lining.

Now I've proved moving the aerial outside I'm going to look into getting a good roof mount aerial and running the wire in with the solar power cable.
:)

There are more than a few grey hairs there long neck, may i take the liberty in reccomending to you a product called just for men,it will make you look a good ten years younger than how you look now.:);)

Hey I paid for those hightlights

I would rather have lots of grey hair than no dark hair, could mention a few names but unlike mr cool I'm not that cruel ;)

Who told you to cut the can like that biggirafe?

Believe it or not, there is a strict scientific way of making one. It depends on the size of the can as to where you mount the receiver. You have to calculate the position and also the length of the rod on the receiver bit.

Your wifes old knickers would probably have worked better than that contraption.

Yeah you are corrent if I was making a Cantenna,

I also saw a video once about using a parabolic reflector behind the aerial this CAN also work but I think the tin can needs to be the height of the aerial

Its fun trying though :D

Cantenna is fine if you have a corresponding "N" type socket on yer lappie to connect up to. Mine doesn't so usb looks like a good option.

There are a few USB types that allow you to connect a remote aerial, if you can get one of these it opens up the option of having a roof aerial.

My experiments yesterday proved that a parabolic reflector will increase your reception by about 10-20%. Maingate is quite correct though you do need to do the math and get your focal point exact or it will not work. The mark 2 version of the tin can will be in production soon :)
