Which side of France?

Hi Folks,

Going back to Spain, Costa Blanca, a bit earlier than usual this year 9th March. Which side of France do you reckon is best this time of year? Is snow likely to be a factor do you think?

Cheers Brian

you don't say where you will arrive in france , but quickest route to the Med is your best bet just in case the weather turns
in case it helps , the free autoroute A75 south from clermont ferrand has never been closed by bad weather

This time of the year, MURCIA would be your best bet. Should be around 16° A guy called John H will correct me if I am wrong. he happens to be in the area at the moment.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for your replies, but I was mainly concerned with the higher altitudes in the south France/Northern Spain areas and also weither the east or west coast of France is likely to be less wet/wamer.
Start Calais destination Alicante/Murcia.

Don't worry about the weather across the Pyrenees - the main routes are always kept open by ploughs. We will be heading north when you are heading south and this year we will probably be going via Vielha. In previous years at this time of year we have crossed via Bielsa, Vielha, Somport and St Jean Pied de Port without any problems. The weather down here in Almeria is absolutely brilliant at the moment - enjoy your trip.

We are heading down to Murcia at the moment, can't say what the weather is like in March but one year we went down towards Limoges &it was freezing in January. Our route this time is the same as I posted in the European section when we went last year until we get to Spain. Approx. Calais-Rouen-Tours-Angolume-Bordeaux-Capbreton (where we are now) then probably Hendaye- Zaragoza-Jalance-Alicante (to top up the LPG) then to La Manga for a month  (first time for years w ehave booked a campsite)

BTW the weather here at Capbreton varies between heavy hail & torrential rain to glorious sunshine  Washed the muck off the van & was really warm within an hour it was a hailstorm :confused:

Vielha I think

Thanks everybody for your repies.
I think I will take the JohnH suggested route. I've just googled the route, roads look good, haven't been that way before. Good enough reasons.
Cheers All,

If you see an 05 reg McLouis Glen heading towards you, give us a wave! Happy travels.

PS the car park in the centre of Vielha village is a superb and widely-used wildcamp - we will be stopping there on the way home.
