I want to charge my laptop on the 12v plug while driving the motorhome. I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 laptop. DC 19 volts and 4.7 amps. I'm not going down the route of inverters etc. I've looked on ebay and amazon and there are loads of them that claim to do this, but I don't want to blow my laptop up by buying the wrong one. How do I find out which charger is compatible?

I have just popped in to Maplin and they have a 100 Watt laptop car adaptor with USB charging socket. It is on offer at £19.99 (Code No. A73HU). This is the one that I have had for some time and it is a good bit of kit. You can set the voltage at DC 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22 and 24 volts.

Be aware that if you have an Acer Aspire netbook, none of the 8 tips supplied will fit. That is my problem and the reason I popped in. I was told to bring my netbook in and they will try the variety of computer plugs they have and if one fits, I can solder it to another tip that I do not use. It will cost about £2 for the plug.

Have a look at their current offers, there are some useful things going cheap (inverters etc).
