As 2024 fades away our thoughts turn to 2025 .... and where our next CV trip will be. For the first time ever, I think, we are stuck for ideas. Have been mulling over Iceland, but expensive ferry and no wild camping. Norway has been an idea for a while, but a lot of driving to the far north, unless we only do the southern half of Norway / Sweden. We are not averse to revisiting places (will be in Hong Kong, wife's family, for 6 weeks in Jan / Feb and I have been going there for 40 years). I know travel is a very personal thing but looking for some inspiration for a 60 to 70 CV day trip.

Heres our tally by country -
England 341
Spain 151
France 62
Wales 59
Portugal 57
Scotland 42
Italy 32
Germany 31
Ireland 26
Morocco 24
Poland 22
Croatia 10
Bosnia & Hertzegovina 6
Belgium 4
Northern Ireland 4
Slovenia 2

year ferry and Sweden is hard to beat. We visited both last year and again this year. Then this year-ferry Sweden to Latvia and onward to Estonia and it islands. Just thinking about next years trip and they are still in this running.

Depends what you like. If you like mountains, lakes and scenery than two gems you seem to have missed out are Austria and Switzerland. Fabulous both of them.

Nordics / Scandinavia back via baltic states would be a good trip. Don't have to go all the way to the top if you don't want to, but could easily with that amount of time.

Our trip from Bedfordshire to Nordcap and return was 7000miles, but as Mark says you don't need to go all the way up Scandinavia, there's lots to see in southern Sweden and Norway.

Lots to do and see in Norway and Sweden without going to the North/very north.

A loop through southern Norway and Sweden, ferry to Lativa (Nynäshamn to Ventspils?) Estonia and back along the Baltic looks good. I'd like to hear more about your travels in this area.

Yes, we could make it to the top, but we have been trying to slow down! Less driving, staying in places for a couple of days.

Any recommendations for southern Norway and Sweden?

Join the nearly Norwegians group in the gatherings thread, a good number attending again
I'll have a look.

Has to be Norway plus Finland & Sweden, you wouls not regret it....enjoy

We did have a sort of plan but I saw there was a ferry to Amsterdam so looked it up £238 with cabin one way £238 compared to the Irish ferry that looked decent to us.

Vienna (expensive but brilliant) and on to Budapest.

We stayed at a site just a short bus or ferry ride into the city centre.

The thermal baths are good for an entire day out.

One of the guys at the camp bar played the violin on an after dark cruise on the Danube. A great evening out.

If the Nordic routes don't suite, here's an alternative.
I see on your map, you have a big gap in France, and for me, probably one of the best bits of France, the centre and south, then ferry to Corsica then ferry to Sardinia, and then you have plenty of ferry options, either Sicily or plenty of routes back to mainland Italy or even France, to reduce driving. Still giving the option of doing Italys west coast.

Corsica and Sardinia are both great places.

If you don't mind hiring a van I'd recommend New Zealand, stunning place to visit.
Yes, agreed. We have had two trips to NZ, one to the North and one to the South Islands, both in swapped / private hire vans - around 7 weeks in total.

We have also had three Australia trips; south from Sydney, north from Sydney and Western Australia - around 10 weeks in total.

Romania, Greece, Cyprus, Sardinia, Sicily all great

Never thought about island hopping; Corsica - Sardinia - Scily. I will add this to my, short, list of possible trips.

We really liked Switzerland and Luxemburg which are both on our list for next year.
We like the outdoors, national parks and small towns and villages. Spain and Portugal have always ticked these boxes very well.

This year Split, late Sept, Dubrovnik, early Oct, Mostar, early October, were all heaving with crocodiles of tour groups many no doubt from cruise ships. I know we are part of the problem but mass tourism in places with small centres like Split and Mostar is not pleasant.
