Where is the best place to wild camp within the centre of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Hope to be there on the weekend. Know the area well but never had a night over. Need to close to mountains Thanks

you can overnight in brecon town use the long stay car park at the back of morrisons ive used that one .but nearly every car park in the brecons can be used ,you are allowed one night legaly. there are many pull offs avalable up there in fact its a wilding haven, dont think you will have many problems finding a nice spot the main road between merther tydfil and brecon has some fantastic scenery and many parking places one thing to watch out for is some of the laybys more so the big well set back ones can suffer from the blight of doggers especialy on the main roads (they wont realy bother you but its still not nice ), but then again that is a blight that hits many places have a good time there its fantastic

I would tend more towards Brecon than Merthyr. I have had some problems with the yoof of Merthyr coming out to rural car parks to practice their doughnuts.

Don't know if this is worse than dogging or not!

we stayed in merther itself at two places last year ,one was the uni car park and the leasure center ,the uni car park seemed to attract the hot hatch mob but apart from the enthusiastic driving were no trouble but the leasure center was quiet as i say this was last year so i cannot comment on now

If you want a quiet night in Merthyr the Car park at rear of Salvation Army is great and no p[roblems. I often use it.
Nearer Brecon I use the Storey Arms parking, This is made from the old road and is surrounded by trees and bushes. Never had probs with youths there as the police patrol regularly.
In Brecon then use the one beside the river. over the bridge and sharp left it is signed.

middle of the Beacons

Thank you for your advice. As mentioned earlier my biggest worry would be the boy racers and pervs. I was thinking more of the picnic area overlooking Talybont res.or anywhere in the heart of the mountains. Even though these places are quiet it is a bit worrying leaving your van for half a day in the middle of nowhere not knowing what your going to come back to. I often see vans around these areas. Has anyone stayed in these places and can offer advice. Thank you.
