I spent a bit of time in & around North Yorkshire & the Black Country as a whole.
Loved visiting the ‘Living museums’ dotted about like Breame and the Big pit trip.
A Steam Railway ride was a fair experience as well as the bustle of a few market towns & an Icecream Farm where they hand rear around 25 flavours . Even went on a ‘Ghost & History Walk’ Starting at Ripon Square led by the Wakemen on Halloween.
Sleningford campsite is a fantastic overnight & Recharge, & of course The George inn for a Carvery by Ripon that Very nearly Beet me, (Well almost!).
It wouldn’t be an area I would purposely head to as a destination, But a lovely Cpl of weeks as a pleasant meander
Dumfries and Galloway, Gordon. Start off by treating your wife to a slap up meal at Brodies in Moffat then on to Glencaple or Kingholm Quay then work your way down the Solway coast (plenty of good free stopovers including Steam Packet at Isle of Whithorn) as far as the Mull of Galloway then depending on time either head home cross country or up the West Coast - again plenty of free stopovers.
Wherever you go enjoy.
