Degree Symbol

If you have Word

go to

Insert

then

Symbol

... and you will find the degree symbol.
Good idea to create a shortcut.

I asked the same question about signs and symbols a couple of years back. Someone gave us the info: here on wildcamping, which I printed out and kept it by my desk. It has been missing for a long while. So, the good soul who knows how to get all the signs PLEASE do it again for us. Thanks

i have created a document named 'degree sign' with only a degree sign in the whole document.
when i need to use the sign I open the document copy and paste the sign
Seems a complicated way to get it Is there a better way??

Hold down ALT and type 0176 (got to be on keypad, not numbers across the top). I think ALT and 248 does the same.

I remember using the numerical pad on the right of key board for ALL signs and symbols. Example:- Press and hold Alt then type 245 = §, Same again, 216=Ï, 314= :, 162 = ó

Long way then:

Click Insert then Symbol

Click symbol tab

Scroll till you find the degree sign

Highlight it and click Insert

(if you're going to use it again you may want to highlight it, right click and copy, then just right click and Paste or go to Edit and paste for future use).

Sorted. In Word Insert - Symbol - Go to degree sign - Highlight it - Click on short cut key - choose your shortcut, I've just done ctrl+z - then click assign.

In future all you need to do is press ctrl+z and there you go!

thank you all

thanks for all your replies
bit complicate but now able to add the sign for conversion from lon/lat to GPS co-ordinates
Seasonal greetings to all

Sorry - it posted itself twice! Don't tell me - a computer only does what you tell it. OK - I thought you might need to read it twice!

You can also use:

Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Character Map (in Windows XP).

This shows all the characters and symbols for a given font - click on the one you want, click select, then click copy to put it in the clipboard.

The clipboard contents can then be pasted wherever you wish ...

Here are a list of signs and symbols you may find helpful. Make sure NUM LOCK is on, on your keyboard. To activate any sign you MUST hold down the ALT key. Example: Hold ALT then type 1 release alt key and you get ☺

1☺ 11♂ 21§ 31▼ 0149• 171½
2☻ 12♀ 22▬ 37% 0153™ 172¼
3♥ 13♪ 23↨ 42* 0162¢ 0190¾
4♦ 14♫ 24↑ 94^ 0165¥
5♣ 15☼ 25↓ 124| 0167§
6♠ 16► 26→ 127⌂ 0169©
7• 17◄ 27← 0131ƒ 0174®
8◘ 18↕ 28∟ 0134† 0176°
9○ 19‼ 29↔ 0135‡ 0177±
10◙ 20¶ 30▲ 0137‰ 0187»

Hope this helps

Hi 1968,

If you're entering co-ordinates, try using Decimal Degrees instead of deg/min/sec
ie; N54.2345 W/E 4.6789 - much easier. You can change the settings on your Satnav to this as well. A lot of the co-ordinates given on this site for Aires etc use Decimal. The same applies to Google Earth, just type in your required location in Decimal Degrees.
