Where at Dover?

Hi Folks.

Taking the ferry Dover to Calais quite early in the morning Wed 9th March. Where to you all reckon is best place to overnight, preferably free, within 1/2 hour of ferry port? 7m motorhome.

Any info gratefully received,
Thanks Brian

Brian, always take the A2 approach towards Dover because they use the M20 as a carpark when they strike in France.
On the roundabout before the big hill towards the harbour there is McDonnald's on the left but on the right is a large Tesco (24hr) I think it's signed "superstore" so just go to the rear of the carpark @ Tesco, security and the police drive by quite regular, we never have trouble and you are 5 mins from the boat plus they have a toilet in the store.

hope this helps ............ john/cath

ps... we'll be there Friday night, have a nice time (Germany here we come !!!)

park on the front overlooking the channel parking bays for motorhomes & caravans we never have any problem,. always other motorhomes there free overnight 6until 9.

I was going to say on my drive, as I'm 5 miles from Dover , however as it only my 2nd post best not get too cocky :)

There's Honda bike shop near Barham say 8 miles from Dover on the A2 and H cafe where there big layby normally used by HGV though. The laybys get packed with then in the evening around here.
Tesco at Dover have stopped letting Campers/trucks in overnight, its 2 hours in the car park but not sure on the penalty for going over.

There is a new lorry park/ service station just before you get to folkestsone of the M20

Reckon the best bet is an evening in the pub ;)

St Margarets en Cliff, used it last year great views and quiet all night, also have used the sea front but you do have to pay for 2 bays if you overlap.

overnight stop Dover

Hi, have stopped a couple of times on the A258 to Deal. Follow Castle Hill Rd until it takes a right hand bend just after the castle, there is a small carpark that I and other MH's have used. Chap comes along from council around 0800 and advises people to move along, but otherwise you seem to be OK.

Good luck and happy camping

I think this is Stop24 at J11, caravans and motorhomes are welcome. First 2 hours free, £3 for 2-4 hours or £5 for 24 hours. Cheaper than most motorway services. I understand that there are bays to the right hand side of the entrance marked "caravans only" that can be used and there's free WiFi. Don't go in the truck area, it's £20/night there!

AndyC,That is where I parked up last week. Parked up lenght wise as there were no MH's or Caravans at the time. your prices quoted are correct. Stopped for a cuppa only.

Go down to the harbour at Folkestone, there is a large carpark where you can overnight. I`ve used it more than once. It is barrier controlled with a security man on duty 24hrs, Also has ex- Gurkas patroling so you can safely leave your van for a walk round. Alright, you have to pay (£4 the last time I went) but its worth it for the peace of mind.

Have you stayed there recently? I heard that they no longer allowed motorhomes overnight. Be very interesting to hear if that's changed.

Hi, I used your stopover 3rd July on way to ferry bound for Switzerland. Nice pub, good beer, and good food. The road in that I took was a bit narrow but not to bad and opens up nicely to a great looking pub.
Thanks
