What's your best money saving tip?

Times are hard, but I've always been a canny Scot anyway - so at least now I've got an excuse!

I wanted a cup holder for my van, I've got a wee shelf where the driver's door should normally be, Halfords wanted 7 quid - I stuck an empty cotton bud tub on & it works a treat!

Just cut a wee slot for the mug handle to slot into, hehe owt for nowt!

What's been your best "I'm not paying that price, I can make something better for nada" moment?

Can't think of anything I've made up out of recycled goods, but my son is always inventing something from nothing at no cost, if that counts. hehe

Hiya Hairytoes (I always LOL when I print this username), I,ve got one.
Ever since I bought my old Fiat Ducato ,the passenger side window would only wind down about 6 inches then the glass would detatch from the caddy and all hell would break loose trying to remember which way was up and which way down.
Because this seems to be a common fault with these vehicles,someone on ebay has made up a replacement caddy which costs £20 inc. delivery.
I,m not paying that, well I dont sit on that side, well just recently the drivers side window caddy rusted and fell apart, so it,s time for action.
I cut off the old mounting bracket from the caddy then ,using an angle grinder, ground a slot along the length of 15mm. copper pipe, then drilled and pop rivetted the old mounting bracket to this. Cut a length of old bicycle inner tube to grip the glass ,refitted to inner door and it works fine.
Both windows fixed within an hour at zero cost
