Dialing 112 from any mobile phone will connect you with the emergency services in most European country's, even if you have no signal from your provider, the phone will search for any provider in the area. So if you are in the middle of nowhere it should help,

found out at a speed awareness course:idea-007: £85 down the drain, better then a £60 fine and 3 points (35mph in a 30):drive:
most of the people on the course had no idea of the above number...
I hope this helps if you have problems in the wild..

I'm pretty certain that 112 works in any country that has an emergency phone service. You can also look up prefix numbers for your own phone to force a flat battery to connect to 112 - gives about 5 minutes of talk time.

works on any phone , not just mobiles , all EU and many places elsewhere
in theory you should get someone who understands english , but don't have too much confidence in that [ especially france ]

many british people didn't know about this number ? no wonder we have a reputation for being thick and insular , this started in 1991 !

and flat batteries are flat batteries ...no code gives them charge ...this is an urban legend ; this probably comes from the fact that some phones can be programmed to use less power by cutting sound quality
