What club is best for motorhomes?

As we all know, Wild Camping is preferable. But, quite often it's difficult to find a convenient safe overnight stop in the UK. Also, sometimes you need to have mains hook up just to recharge your batteries.

So, I'm looking to join either the Caravan Club or the Camping and Caravan Club. The price for each is pretty much the same £37.50 and £36.00.
I'm interested in others opinions as to which club is best for us, in terms of number of sites, cost of sites, attitude, etc. ?

I appreciate any feedback.

Oh, thanx for that Chrissy. Just read the thread you mention. It seems the views are pretty much six of one and half a dozen of the other!
I suppose, if all being equal, I'd probably go for the CC as my parents are in that and we'd have more chance of getting away to the same site.
But I do worry about the possible CC stuffy attitudes I've heard about? We have an oldish self build Transit high top (we call her 'Betty' - see my avi). She may not be a top of the range 30k Hymer, but we love her. I'd hate to see her insulted by some sniffy CC warden!
I'll see what other opinions are offered before I decide. One thing that may have a bearing, is that we usually take my 8 year old daughter with us. So whichever club is more child friendly is important.

The self build club report less snotty attitudes about self builds from the C&CC and i've never had any problems with them and always had a cheery welcome.

Another thing...

Just wondered.
Is there a crossover with the sites on CC and the C&CC?
That is, are the sites usually only available exclusively from one club or the other, or can the sites be affiliated to both clubs?

The answer to that is no. Ive been in both clubs and have a big hymer, but the Caravan club are by far the worse, they have a very snotty attitude( I,m talking as an organisation, not the individual site wardens mostly) and, they appear to relish that position to keep the riff-raff out. That is why the C&CC club use the signature "the freindly club". I certainly would only ever use the C,Ls and never an actual site with the caravan club....Bob

I found the C&CC a bit sniffy too

When I applied to join the C&CC I was asked what unit I had, They requested photo's of my Transit LWB High top, I sent them and was rejected, reason, I only have a window in the sliding door so they deemed it to be a panel van, I have fridge 3 ring hob, grill, 12 volt microwave, double bed,Erberspacher heater, home from home, but then it has no windows!, I apealed but was told the decision is final.
So now I became a wild camper, but stop on sites who like your money.

Hi, I think the clue is in the original question (Motorhomes). As a dedicated wild camper who also only needs a site now and then, I have been in the Motorcaravanners club for over 20 years. Most the cl sites run by them are in the £5 / £9 per night range, and many attached to pubs. Dezi

They don't sound very friendly, Jim!
We have the same vehicle as you, albeit with a few extra windows on the passenger side (one for the loo compartment and another little one in the high top for the overhead bed). But the drivers side just has the one extra window. I wonder if they would reject us, too?
I suppose you could have sent them a photo of a fancy top of the range custom built Transit. How are they to know it's not yours? Anyone can change their van during the course of a year....

But thanx for the warning.
I see you're in Norfolk. Not far from us. We just spent the weekend 'Wilding it' at Ringland on a friends plot of land next to the river. On Sunday we headed for Weybourne and discovered the parking meters on the beach car park are broken. You can stop there all day for free! (and apparently some are overnighting as well).

On a trip to the Isle of Wight last week a ferry company also asked a self-builder for extra money due to lack of enough windows. Beware it's not just campsites.

Hi Jim, having been in the C&CC club for a while, I have never heard of anyone ever being rejected for the equipment they have. I have seen people camping in cars, builders vans, allsorts. In fact some members have no vehicle at all, when was this please, as I find it really reprehensible and something should be done.....Bob

Well, I took the plunge and went for the C&CC. No problems regarding my van. Perhaps they have relaxed their rules a bit?
I quite liked the idea of the Motor Caravanner's Club, but they don't allow you to join online and my printer is up the spout. ... maybe in the future.
Thanx all, for the advice.
