what are cl's ccc's etc?

These are small sites offered by the main two big clubs - taking max of 5 units.

could be on a farm, or in a field could be with or without certain amenities ie. elecy, toilet, hard standing etc..

usually cheaper than the big sites.

there are some great little gems out there!

thanx craig! i have seen somewhere that you can nip on a site pay something like £6 and use showers and amenities etc are these them and do they all do it? where would i look to find them? many questions lol;)

Im a caravan club member. They send me a book everyyear detailing all club sites, all their cls and a few big commerical sites. Approx 30 something pound a year. They are on their website too. think you still need to be a member to access it.

regards

Craig

ps keep firing all questions over on this site. You will get lots of helpfull replies!

cl is certified location and has the cuventry one has intimated campsites normally on farms with a restriction of no more than 5 vans.

The big two have cl's has part of there offerings.

Normally no showers, table tennis room etc, amenities strech as far as a tap sometimes a bit of leccy and a grate to dispose of black waste (toilet)

Others may have a different definition, but cc is Caravan Club...ccc is Caravan and Camping Club.

Whilst wild camping whatever that means may be the preferred mode of camping here, reality in my opinion dictates that for water etc etc the cc and ccc are indispensible. And fwiw a day on their sites makes life a lot easier

An opportunity for electricity , a proper shower and often a laundry.

cl sites

The cl's are a godsend if you are a caravan club member and you will never want to stay on a commercial site ever again. Some are very basic eg a field with a tap and waste disposal and cost couple of pounds , others are more sophisticated with elect./showers and cost a few pounds more but the beauty of them is the max 5 units rule so you never feel crowded. There are some beautiful cls in every part of the country and thats the only reason I pay to belong to the caravan club.

Some CL's are attached to a pub!!!!

now thats nice.

Craig:)

thanx everyone for useful info, its really only for other half lol, she wants a shower regular and do her hair etc but i guess its cheaper than buying and supporting a 250,000watt inverter for her hair dryer and straightners for a start;)

i love my wilding, and me and the dogs are short haired so don't take long to dry out after our bath in the stream;)

In the past, I have lumped round a generator just so them female gagets could be used!

Don't be put off by the anti campsite brigade, they don't suit everyone but not all campsites are the same, you just have to suck em and see. For every good one you find you will also find a bad one, but thats half the fun.

One trick is to only pay for 1 night at a time, if you don't like it leave, there are plenty of campsites to try :)

by its very nature , a campsite needs some kind of structure to function and some do it better than others.

If one regards that a cl is a parcel of land to rest on without interference, Then you have the gig...toilets pubs circuses etc are thereafter a bonus.

Naturally only my opinion

do you have to be in cc to use a cl? if not where can i get a list of them?

To the best of my knowledge CC at least then yes you need to be a member, I daresay the same is true of the CCC.

In terms of listings cc at least the handbook you get lists them by county, Always worth a quick phonecall before turning up. to confirm that the cost for starters and arrangement re electric if nothing else.

I have a lot of connections with Doncaster and often use a cl in a place called Hatfield...£6.50 per the pitch an dthe leccy is on a meter £2 per night is not out the way with the weather we have been having.

Mid week I can stop in Clumbe rpark a fully blown cc site for £ 7.20 ehu is part and parcel and I dont need to consider my useage, Also Shower block and toilets ...laundry at additional expense.

My point is on occasion the main sites are far better value for money.

I think that relates to the main C&CC (?) club sites where motorhomers can call in for a couple of hours for a fee, in order to do laundry, shower, top up and so on. I suppose you'd need to be a member of the club but I'm not sure.

Certificated Sites (locations) are provided by a number of clubs not just the big two.

Don't forget the Motor Caravanners' Club also have CLs (Croft is one of them)

There are 10 exempted organisations in the UK that have the ability to provide certificated Sites.

The Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960 provides for clubs to establish these site with a minimum of planning control.

They are intended for use by members of that club but the Caravan Club insists that you have to be a member to use them. It is not written into the 1960 Act. That simply states that they are intended primarily for members of the club.

To become a club that can issue an exemption you must have a constitution that states that recreation is one of the aims of the organisation. You then apply to Natural England.

There are three types of exemption
Rallies up to 5 days paragraph 6
Extended rallies up to 28 days paragraph 4
and Certificated Sites for up to 5 vans at any one time all year paragraph 5

The minimum requirement for any exempted site is a supply of drinking water and a disposal point for toilet waste.

As far as I know you don't need to be a member, there's a list of the sites offering the facility here: The Camping and Caravanning Club - Motorhome Service Points
