Is it me or is this the wettest drought we have ever had?

OK I admit that I am 10 miles from the nearest hosepipe ban in W Sussex but I need wellies on to cross my back garden to feed the fish in their overflowing pond.

Er not quite, I rember the drought of 1974 when things became so bad that Denis Howell was appointed minister for drought.

Within days we were up to our ears in floodwater, so he was renamed minister for floods.

Probably the most successful political appointment ever.

I aint seen no drought in Wales.

Just the normal rain, rain and more rain.

We haven't seen 3 years worth of rain yet, we are gonna need a whole lot more before it is officially not a drought any more. Keep Smiling!

I wonder who actually decides when it is no longer a drought. Would it be the ducks or the tadpoles?

Is it just me being cynical in my dotage but over the last twenty years the number of houses built has increased, not only the use of water, but the revenues of the water company's. Have they spent any of this extra income on new reservoirs, or desalination plants? Not to mention the fact that if I offered a service and didn't deliver I would not be paid:blah::blah:

Good point which drew me to looking at the official rainfall charts from the met office Met Office: Rainfall, sunshine and temperature time-series which show the UK is averaging more rain per year than ever (well since records began in 1910 anyway) so as antiquesam says maybe there's just not enough of it to keep pace with our expanding population.

Scary :scared:

Drought

No drought in Chorley, just the same Rain, rain & more rain :lol-061::lol-061::lol-061:

Don't forget that he also won us the World Cup as Minister for Sport!

With a little help from 11 players I believe.:idea-007:

Yes but don't forget that they were much less important than that Russian linesman. Think about it: Labour Sports Minister, Russian linesman - the solidarity of the left won us that cup!!!!

Nothing wrong with being cynical.................

Drought declaration is better than an indian Raindance IMHO!

Which particular version of the solid left are you claiming victory for ?

Those who blindly followed the ideology of Lenin, or perhaps the followers of some of the other charmers.

Trotsky – Bukharin – Marx – Mao – Engels etc etc.

Might I suggest that the wettest drought that we have ever had maybe put down to mismanagement of resources and too much profit being handed to shareholders instead of being ploughed back into the updating of infrastructure?.....No, surely not!
