Recently spent several days in west yorkshire, but one night picked a layby on a remote road (not our normal type of camping spot), only to be woken up at 7.00am by the park ranger saying they now have by-laws to stop wild campers, but allow one night privided they don't see you again!

From what he was saying and reading between the lines, it sounds as though we may have been reported by a camp site down the road!

Hi Steve,
Way back when we did a lot of continental touring we found that it was
a standard in Norway.

Every man's right.
To stop overnight any place one chooses for one night only, provided they leave the surrounding area as they found it.

This I think is an excellent idea and we all should be quoting this to anyone who queries us.

We have been using this criteria for over 30 years and only had a problem once. We went to Wookey hole some 15 years ago and arrived late at night and it was dark, we overnighted in their car park with the intention of going in next morning.

In the morning after we'd had breakfast two silly men in white coats
knocked the the door and told us we couldn't stop overnight. We explained our intentions, but they were still insistent.
We just told them to take the night back and they walked away with their tail between their legs.

With friendly greetings,
Ian
