After living here a few years it,s not long before you pick up some of the Spanish ways now most of my friends here are Spanish and like some motorhome owners in England they always stop to try and help any other motorhome that looks like it has problems on the side of the road. This i now do if i see a British reg with problems. That is until today. After a good nights fishing in the port at Gandia as i was driving home i saw a UK reg motorhome stopped by the 2 police cars so i stopped to try and help with my little bit of Spanish, The motorhome was towing with an a frame and the gentleman was waving a lot of papers at the police which seemed to be p---ing them of. When they left they had fined him on the spot 90 euros and told him that he cant tow a car like that in Spain. The papers that he showed the police were in Spanish saying that it is legal to do this in England as when a car being towed it becomes a trailer and the police told him in Spain they dont have engines in trailers . The gentleman was on his way with his wife to meet friends that live in Alicante about 75 km away his wife could not drive so what was he to do with the car. this is were the fun starts. As the insurance was him only to drive we left the car parked up he followed me home then we parked the motor home up left his wife in the motor and went back to pick his car up and bring it back.

Then it turned out his friends in Alicante dont drive so if he took the motorhome to them he still could not get back that day to pick the car up.
So muggings here said i would follow them to his friends house and then bring him back to pick the car up which we did so all well in the end. After doing a 150km round trip the last words he said to me was that,s the last time you will see me in F---ing Spain.

So be warned if your down my way with an A frame and get stopped and some one bibs you and waves in might be me.:lol-049::lol-049::lol-049:

So it's not all bad then. One less motorhomer plus an A frame down here can only be a good thing as far as I'm concerned, always look on the bright side!!

Hiya Kenspain

I hope this doesn't put you off being so helpful in the future. Me and hubby like to think we would help anybody out as well but some people are just sooo ungrateful. On an odd occasion my hubby has pointed out to a driver that their rear light is out only to receive a grunt in reply. Ah well they'll be doing a lot more than grunting if they're stopped by the Police.

I am just waiting to see what he tells his friends when they all meet up as i saw the paper work on where he is going and i dont think he will like that campsite. the Spanish call it Ikea Parking :lol-053::lol-053:

What a good deed kenspain;)........if only more people could be as helpful as you the world would be a better place. W have not had the pleasure of going to Spain yet mayber next year who knows, but I will remember to ask you when we do go of what places best to avoid....I dont fancy that campsite at all.

Some people just don't get the message:cool1: and unfortunatly the more you help them the more they expect it.:drive:

Hi Ken,
Don't stop being a decent person just because of one such an idiot.
We lived in Spain for ten years and got sick of stupid brits moaning about the Spanish.
The favorite moan was "Can't any of you idiots speak English?" or "why don't you do it like the English?"
Personally I always found the Spanish to be extremely helpful and my best friend was Spanish and didn't
speak a word of English but always managed to understand my Spanglish.
I did get cheated twice during my stay. Both times by a Brit.

If someone had done that for me at the very least as well as paying for their time and fuel (I assume they did this?) I think a slap up meal or some kind of gift would be in order! I like to think I would have done the same as you but I can understand how you feel if thats how they were.

Its well documented now that if you run the guantlet with an A frame in Spain you run the risk of getting caught. They are illegal there.

At the very least make sure you have someone who can drive the toad or better still just get a trailer for Spain.

No i was not offered money and if i was i would not have took it a thank you and a hand shake would have done even my Spanish friend could not understand the man, But as he has been a mate for many years he understands the word F---ing were from i dont know:raofl::raofl:

;););)

need to come back over again soon as i miss a nice cervessa grande on the sea front

Sorry that you got such rotten treatment when all you were trying to do was help

I am not surprised at the Spanish Police reaction. I would have loved to have used an A Frame; after all, what could be easier? But there are so many places where they are illegal. Germany for one and, evidently Spain. I believe that the French have every intention of cutting up rough on A Frames as well

I've always said that it doesn't matter what bits of translation the A frame manufacturers give you. If the continental Rozzers decide that its illegal then you are going to get fined: Perhaps the manufacturer will help you with the costs of trying to recover your fine? I'm willing to bet that they will not.

Although you say 'that's your lot' i'm sure you don't really mean it, it's in your nature, the world needs more people like you.
