Wedding Anniversary Weekend Trip

A wonderful weekend, which will probably be our last away trip in our motorhome.
Due to a recently diagnosed illness, my lovely wife and myself set off for Northumberland for a wedding anniversary weekend away.
We set off on Thursday evening after a further doctors appointment in Sheffield, and stopped overnight just off the A1, at CR Whickham, on the A694, the car park was all but empty when we arrived at dark O'clock, and apart from the hum of traffic on the A694, and the rain, we had a good nights sleep.
My lovely wife took over the driving from here on as my illness was impeding my driving.
In the morning after breakfast, we drove to an overnight pub stop, in Beadnell (The Craster Arms) where we were treated to one of the biggest meals we have come across in pub stops. My wife had the fish and chips which was served not on a plate, but a tray. I can really recommend this pub if you like your food. The car park filled with cars quite quickly, so get there early to avoid disappointment.
The following day we drove to Seahouses, parked in the overflow parking where there was plenty of room for a 7m van, and we walked into Bamburgh, past the Castle and into The Copper Kettle for cream tea (got to be done), then had to walk back to Seahouses to walk off the food, we had been lucky with the weather as it had not been too bad.
We then carried on up the coast and stopped overnight at Warren Mill (LR) a layby set slightly back from a quiet road. The weather closed in and we tucked in behind some trees and bushes for protection from the storm, which worked really well for the night, until we run out of gas. I had forgotten we were on our last cylinder.
After a run to Go Outdoors in Scremerston, we were fully gassed up again and headed for Aysgarth Falls, knowing that the falls would be quite dramatic after all the rain.
We arrived later on in the day and the car park was empty by the falls. This car park charges £12.50 for motorhomes to overnight until 10 am the following morning and then £2.50 per hour or £10 for the day. We opted for a grassed area further down the road out the other side of Aysgarth, for another good night.
In the morning we drove back to the falls car park, paid for parking and visited the falls.
We were back in Sheffield later on to find a letter for me stating that I must send in my driving license to get a medical review license, so no more motorhome driving for me.
My wife has never driven the motorhome for this many miles before and she done a sterling job, even though I could not help but "advise" sometimes.

Thanks for the post with all the photos and details of your stay.
I sincerely hope that is not your last trip beemer and that you and your wife get out again soon.
But I hope you get better after your treatment, and you post another post on here telling us of your travels.

All the very best to you, your wife, and your family.

Thank you for your comments.
I have been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, it is in the early stages affecting my arm/shoulders at the moment, which means I struggle to select reverse and 5th, hence why my good lady had to drive. We are in the process of selling the 4.5t van and hopefully get a smaller automatic, but I suspect "her indoors" will still be doing the driving :)

That is awful news beemer, I am really sorry to hear that.
But the smaller auto is an excellent idea.
I hope you enjoy many trips in it.

Very sorry to hear your diagnosis. Great attitude I think to make the most of what you have and get the smaller van to continue camping.

Hi Beemer,

Sorry to hear your news.

All the best for the future and fingers crossed that you and your wife manage to continue motorhoming.

Pete

Seems forever since we meet on Bilbao dock.

So sorry to hear the news, Beemer.

Even if you are unable to drive I hope that a smaller 'van will be an option and prove enjoyable.

May I wish you all the best with your treatment.

Take care of yourself.

Chris
