Water tank gauge

The gauge on our Zig panel (1999 vintage) only reads 3/4 full when the tank is full.

That is with the setting potentiometer turned all the way clockwise.

Is this a common problem?

Suggestions for a cure would be appreciated too ...

Many thanks.

Does it drop properly once you get under 3/4? if it does I would not worry. I'd be quite happy if mine only told me when I have 1/4 tank and below. Then its time to fill up. Driving around with a full tank uses more fuel ;)

Mine is useless as well, it gives random readings so I ignore it and look in the tank!

If yours has the wet sensors in the tank they might need cleaning.

No reading on water tank ?

I have a problem with the readings on my water tank, there is none, and yes it is full :D checking everything before we have a break, checked the wires into the rear of the dial thingy, turned the little nob thingy, like the book says but nothing, any suggestions ?
Its a 95 Talbot Autoquest Eldiss.

I don't think that any of the sensors they use for the tank level are that good & just give a rough indication. Ours only reads full when it is right to the top & soon as we take a couple of litres out it then reads 3/4.

We take it that
3/4 is up to full,
1/2 is up to 3/4
1/4 is up to 1/2
Empty is up to 1/4
After that we just wait till the pumps starts screaming

Hi
Mine is made up of a few rods of differing lengths that go into the water. When the water touches a rod it creates a circuit and the needle moves. I eventually realised that the nuts on the end of the rods in the electronics at the top had come loose. When I tightened these everything worked perfectly again.

Also as per previous posts, you may need to remove it from the tank and ensure the probe or probes are nice and clean.

Also take the connections off and clean and add some vasaline etc before replacing, its a damp atmosphere near the tank and they get tarnished.

fresh water gauge.

I shall clamber underneath when i have chance and check fittings, wires ? etc as mine(fresh water tank) is under the vehicle, filed up from locking cap at side,i usually fill till it runs out filler neck, especially the first time before using for the year as i add a sterelizer/cleaner,what do you use and how much ?perhaps something i can pick up in a chemists or supermarket,as i am not in UK.
