Water pump problems..or something!

The Shurflo water pump in our AutoRoller 700 has began 'burping'. Sounds like it is trying to pump water, for a second or so, even though no taps/showers etc are in use. This has started to increase with disconcerting frequency. Does anyone know what's happening?

I assumd there must be some kind of leak somewhere, but try as I might I can find no evidence of this (admittedly I can't access every inch of pipe).

We are full-timing and have taken to turning the pump off and turn it on to use a tap / toilet etc. But this no way to live

Anyone have same problem?

Check the pressure cut off switch, may just need adjusting

By burping, do you mean it is starting by itself, running for a second or so and then switching off. Repeats at irregular intervals.

Often caused by a tiny bit of debris under the valves in the pump that is allowing water to very slowly seep back from the output side to the suction side. Pressure drops very slowly over many minutes or hours until the pressure switch triggers and runs the pump for a short time to pump the system back up.

Sometimes have to pull the end off the pump and clean everything thoroughly - or install a new kit.

Another possibility is a very slight weep from the overpressure valve on the hot water service if fitted.

Doesn't take much and can be so slight that it would barely show up in the bottom of the toilet bowl if it is the flush valve leaking.

So glad I spotted this post - completely forgot that our pump started running constantly on our last trip out during the summer! We had to switch on and off and it was a nightmare just for the 3 weeks we were away - let alone for a full timer!

Ours is a Shurflo and we've already had to strip it down once as it leaked and filled the locker!

Thanks for the tips as to what to try first before replacing.

Thanks for all help guys. What would I do with out this website? Hell, I'm going to have to become a full member!

The trapped debris could well be the right diagnosis. I'll drain and clean tommorow.

RE...."Check the pressure cut off switch, may just need adjusting" What/where is the prssure cut off switch?

Thanks again

hi, agree check all those things .but its wise to always have an isolation swutch and turn the pump off after every use. only needs one small leak and it can empty your water tank in to your van.
i longterm and can easily live for upto 9 months a year in the van . i try always to turn off the pump every time. its not difficult.
