I’ve never toured the UK and Ireland during months when we get sub zero temperatures. We now have a winterproofed motorhome with lagging and water heaters and an occasional winter excursion is now a possibility. It has occurred to me that many of the typical water sources in UK and Ireland may be turned off or closed in winter to prevent burst pipes so water supply sources could be extremely limited. What is the water source experience of those who have toured the UK and Ireland in months with sub zero temperatures? Is it a question of only being able to fill up at campsites that are open or service stations that are motorhome friendly?

Sub zero temps are not that common in the UK even in Scotland as we are a Maritime climate so tend to drop to the 2C or so with the odd dip below.

The likes of garages and harbours will have water available and of course at public loos too.

Put it like this we have done what you are considering which is going out on tour in mid winter and we didn't encounter water issues.

Enjoy Scotland. :)
