hi john. i have never found it necasary to use bottled water in france . yet i do very often get a 5ltr bottle just in case you get a stomach upset . usually bring it home . i supose if you drink alot of water you may find it tastes different to your own local water . i hardly drink plain water i will admit. have fun ,glad you all ok .cheers alan.
Hi, France has come a long way since Arnold Bennett said" theirs nowt wrong with the water in Paris lass" promptly caught cholera from it and died. These days the "potable" is of a high standard. However like many other areas of Europe some water although o.k. to drink can contain high concentrates of minerals that may cause an upset stomach.
While we have no problem drinking the water in France & most of the rest of Europe you do need to possibly take some precautions. The number of times we have seen people rinsing out their toilet using the drinking water tap is staggering. People who look very respectable think nothing of sticking the emptying nozzle of their cassette directly onto the tap people use for drinking water. We give the nozzle a wipe with a sterlising cloth or pour a bit of boiling water over it unless we are sure it is ok. We fitted a POZZANI FILTER which removes any taste & gives some protection 99.8% against bacteria. It was easy enough to fit & they were really helpful when I rang, when I told them where I was fitting it they suggested I get a fitting for my plastic pipe & they would then supply the correct matching part to make it easier.
Another products that we have used is Elsil ELSIL it sterilizes the water & has no taste.
In the past we used to buy bottled water but found that fitting a filter or using something like Elsil more cost effective.
We always drink bottled water even when at our home in France. But it's only
down to taste as the water there is as safe as it is in the UK. Water points at public places such as aires are also monitored regularly, but as pointed out by ***** people do tend to use the fresh water points to rinse their cassettes so give them a wipe before using.
Bonne route
Nolly.
I already put a link on my earlier post for Elsil We did find that it made the coffee a bit frothy
Prefer using the water filter as it cost under £40 including a tap, replacement filters are also a reasonable price. They say you should change them every six months but I think using them in the van they should last longer.
Given that we started in 15 year old 7 previous owner vans and now travel extensively and fill up whenever we get the chance we treat our onboard "fresh water" tank as not 100% safe ... so drinking and boiling water comes from 3 5l bottles we fill only from sources we trust ... if they cant be refilled safely/easily we replace with bought bottled water.
