watching from afar

I have been watching this site without logging in and well in my opinion ( and only my opinion ) but we do seem to be getting off the subject WILD CAMPING. As I see it we choose to go and travel like Nomads stopping for a short time where we like ( within reason ) not hurting anyone or anything some councils approve some don't but most seem to turn a blind eye. Signs erected saying No Overnighting or some No Camping and we as responsible people respect that. we mostly do our thing away from residential areas so causing little distress. I see one member has wrote to all councils causing some good and not so good responses but as I see it which council is gunna say yes you can wild camp here. All they will do is open a dedicated camp area and probably charge a fee. at the moment we just slip in and out again causing no harm and the council blind eye is turned. There are some great WILD CAMPING places and what we don't want is these councils putting in height barriers even in out of the way places. My point is yes some councils do supply an outside tap some don't, some are providing dedicated MH spaces many don't. WHAT POINT AM I MAKING Well its simple I don't want to be forced onto over priced sites with facilities that I don't want and probably don't need I spend a lot of time at home in one place I just wanna go and enjoy this GREAT country of ours
SORRY JUST NEEDED A RANT

Aint that the truth ! I dont mind staying on sites in Europe you get value for money there

Hit the nail on the head, Hippyhappy. Living on a site is not wild camping. But then again, everyone to there own tastes and reasons. Main thing is they are MHer's, I wish them a wonderful holiday whether wild or on site

It seems that you think I use pay sites ! Allmost never (onley if I have a couple of freinds in tents camping that I will)
As a fellrunner Im off allmost every weekend in the lakes or dales and proud of the fact that I find more and more beautifull spots to camp, places where you wont be able to get to with your big moterhomes
so keep your lectures

I reckon it doesn't do to be too dogmatic about this. Surely it's different strokes for different folks? Or the same folks at different times!

We haven't done much motorhoming yet (only had it a couple of months and I'm concentrating on getting it running right before any long trips). But we have done a fair bit of caravanning. We usually find pretty remote sites, small and rural, basic facilities, even corners of fields, and we've seen some fabulous places that way. This summer, we booked a site in Italy on spec and when we arrived it was like a village - well no, actually a small town. It was HUGE. We said we would spend 2 nights max, then head home the slow way and cut our losses. We stayed the full 2 weeks and had a great time - restaurants, pools, great facilities, friendly people all around (Brits, Dutch and German in the main). We were very surprised at how much we enjoyed it. We won't be doing it again for a while, as it isn't really our scene, but taking each experience as it comes and making the most of it is a good thing, I think. (The next site we stayed on was a tiny place next to a glacial stream in the Aosta Valley - bliss!)

There's no one right approach IMO - take life as it comes. There's no second sitting.
