Hi,

I`d like to ask the members of this forum for opinions and advise on washing machines for use in motorhomes. I`ve been looking around on the net and have found "machines" similar to this and that`s about it.

Are they any good ? I would be interested in hearing the pros and cons on them. I`ve tried searching through previous posts but not had much luck. I appreciate some might say they`re inconvenient for storing when not in use. Not a problem for me.

Anyhow, thanks in advance.

Saw quite a few being used by Brits and French in Morocco this year albeit just the washing machine without the spin dryer, were selling them in Maroc Carefour for about 35 euro, will look into buying one this year, don't need the spin dryer when you got blazing sunshine:D

I have seen a few people using those but I have no experience of them, we have one of these and we use it with a spin dryer similar to this, works for us and any hand washing is almost dry after spinning

Hi Jeffos yes we had one of those when we were full timing, very good, the guy we bought from even sent replacement when it broke down.

We have one and take it when travelling for more than a week or so. It always draws attention when in use all nationalities come over and chat about it and stare as they walk past:)

It does a decent job we do tend to find the clothes come out with fluff all over them and does use a fair bit of water as you are hauling it back and to. But I have it down to a system, fill with clean water wash for 15 mins then drain down, that is slow so I use the drier bit to get water out faster. Dump that water (down the approved waste water point of course) then clean water to rinse, another 15 mins then I reuse that water for the next load to wash, replacing for the next rinsing stage. The spin drier is very good, but clothes still need to be out to dry properly. With 5 of us the weight is offset by the extra clothes we do not take. Would we buy another, yes and do the clothes come out clean, yes, if not spin the dial for another 15 minutes. We bought a second hand one on Ebay and used it for three years. I have a large muck bucket to move water back and to, but have used hot from the MH when needed. You do need mains or a decent invertor.

We have a used twin tub Royal for sale, £40, almost identical to the one shown on eBay. We found it brilliant, but as we now have a scooter to carry in the garage, there is no room for the washer.
We are going to the Rutland meet at the end of this month, so if anyone is interested, pm us and we can bring it with us.
Cheers Lou

Although not my post enjoyed reading the replies as I have thought about one myself, thx for the info.

We have one at our place in Spain and use it often. They are great and I would recommend them!
Just remember that you can't get a twenty kilo load in them - little and often is the way.

we have a similar model ,washes and spins great but rinsing seems to require copious amounts of water unless her indoors is doing something wrong, be interesting to hear how other people get the clothes rinsed properly something I'm pretty fussy about ,we can't even use bio stuff as I'm allergic to it.

Much easier using a launderette or facilities on a campsite or take more clothes lol !

I go away to relax and get away from doing housework, washing etc.

taking more clothes or getting away from the house work not really an option for us full timers or indeed using campsites that have those facilities, and a weekly wash in a UK launderette would cost a bloody fortune.

I use a 'girlfriend' to do the laundry, but it's massively expensive to maintain, requires lots of accessories to function properly and doesn't work when in 'huff' mode.

We used to have a washing machine in the Hymer it was made by ITT,it was in three parts, body, lid and drum, all plastic, it was very good and only needed 150 watts to run,it did not spin though,we also had a normal domestic spinner. (and still do) that is a great bit of kit, again only 150watts. we take it everywhere as a quick spin of the washing. Hand washed and a short time on a line and it is dry.I bought the original washing machine for a tenner at a car boot and on one of our French trips I bought a second one at another boot Sale vide grenier or something like that, I sold both machines recently for the same price I paid so was happy with that as we had use of them for a few years.definately recommend a spinner

I'll stick with the Mrs, don't think she would appreciate me getting a girlfriend anyway

If I brought one of these things for £80 and it went into huff mode, IE - berserk crazy mad and destroyed itself + 3 kilos of clothes, it would still be cheaper than maintaining the alternative option....hmm....decisions decisions, I never knew life was this complex !

Thank you for all the replies.

I`d say they`re worth investing in from what you`ve all said. Weekly/fortnightly trips to launderettes are a bit expensive and time consuming, although it sounds like these machines require some time spent too, albeit with the added benefit of being "home" while using them. They also provide convenience which I think makes a difference and you know you can always wash your kit wherever you are so long as you have a water supply.

"Hand washing" is too much elbow grease for me ;)

Done deal me thinks.

It is documented elsewhere when i was fulltiming washing was the biggest pain. What can work rather than these new fangled things is purchase a nappy bucket ....fill with water add clothes and detergent ...place in a suitable place and set off on your travels...all the bumpy roads and turns etc really agitate the water within ....then at destination ...rinse and dry

When you arent washing the bucket can be used for storage !!!
