Wapley Hill (Herefordshire)

After 30years of wild camping in van I was moved from above

There is a notice on car park open dawn to dusk. Arrived in the car park 8pm but by 8.30 a guy appeared and advised us to move or rangers will just come & move us. So we packed up & drove 20miles to another spot then next morning drove 20miles back to walk to top of a very interesting hill fort on top of Wapley Hill. Over the years we have filled many a bin bag with rubbish collected from camping spots leaving them much cleaner than before our visit. We like to get off walking early 6am this time of year so only use camp sites now and again.

Sadly NSY this is so typical of what we see on here all the time now.
Its not even newsworthy, other than letting others know of the new restrictions.
You must have seen so many changes in 30 years, thanks for the update.

What guy ? and more importantly what authority did he have ? Looks like the car park is owned by Forestry England, there is no way they employ Rangers out of season to move motorhomes from their car parks. I think I would of thanked the gentleman and sat it out.

I would have asked for i.d. and authority. We have stayed there and had no problem whatsoever, in fact, last year we had a wonderful experience there when a choral group sang for an hour, because of Covid restrictions they couldn't meet indoors so they chose the carpark.
Last time we stayed was in April.

For those that don't know Wapley Hill, it isn't overlooked, it isn't used at night, it is used by dog walkers [most of whom don't clean up after their dogs] and it used by visitors to the hill fort.

Sounds like a nasal twanging busybody who really should mind their own business?

Missed him.

I know someone that lives nearby and walks the hill regularly. They tell me that the foresters have been doing some work on the hill recently - but they are not normally there. So you may have been unlucky in timing.

It was a guy in a Range Rover so I don't think a forester. Maybe he was worried about his pheasants getting disturbed before he got a chance to shoot them.
