Hi my friends, this is I suppose a strange ask, but, has anyone got languishing embarrassedly about the house, one of those machines that played video tapes and was able to record them onto a dvd disc? I have a load of things on tape that I would love to preserve. So either as a gift, loan or sale, if you've got one------gis it

I have a couple of tapes I want transferring and was going to look for equipment to record them (I have a VHS recorder somewhere) but I found a local company that does them for about a tenner a tape. Not used them yet as I never got round to it but it might be worth checking in your local area if there is a company that does this. My concern with using an old VCR is if it would work properly after years of not being used and just chew up the tape.

I did some years ago can't remember That I used more than a set of leads. But found some Utube how to films

Got one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi folks, thanks for the advice but I've just got one off Freecycle / Freegle :dance::dance:. The lady said that it would colour everything green, I tried it----she was correct. I checked on tinterwebby thing and a composite adaptor was probably the answer----------it was and is. Who's a happy bunny then :rabbit::rabbit::rabbit:

What did you get? An old recorder, and what is a composite adaptor?

On linux i can plug in and use a program called openshot, then sent to a pen drive as disks are old hat now.

Smarty pants, I've told you before that I hate you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'Still do

Have you noticed all new small tv sets have usb which saves on motors to drive the old cd units, must be a good power saving im sure, also pens are easy to store.

I have copied vhs tapes from our old video recorder to our hard drive (& DVD) recorder, which is about 10 years old now - connected by ye olde skart lead. Works very well & both machines will no doubt be cheap enough to get 2nd hand.
(Thought I'd add that the hdd/dvd recorder is good for editing out adverts, adding chapter breaks & other bits of editing before transferring the recording to dvd.)

We have a tv that we bought a couple of years ago from Aldi that has this facility, and it's wonderful, but alas too late for 70s technology. Still hate you though----------------it's at least a bottle of red before you even start to creep into our loved book

We have an ancient video tape recorder too, the sad thing is that while we can enjoy the odd film from pre history, it steadfastly refuses to do anything else, hence my request. But now I am the proud owner of one that will swap a tape to a dvd I am well chuffed, I just need now to find out how to finalise the recorded disc. I'm sure that there is something in the wibberley wonderful web to help, I just need to find it. But again folks, thanks for your help
