Hi folks, as many of you know I am the proud owner of an 1150 BMW, but now because of physical and health stuff, it's got to go. I think that I have a buyer, so if the sale is successful, I would like another bike. But it needs to be quite a lot lighter than the quarter ton beemer, but fast enough to keep this geriatric old rocker rolling and with an electric leg. Because we do not have a lot of spare cash, it has to be no more than £1700 (the price of my beemer), so do any of you have an embarrassment stuck at the back of your garage or shed? (yes yorkie lass, give Dave a kick !!!!) please bare me in mind.
Ta Peter

Hi poppy,lm not a fan of the 1150,more into the earlier stuff the r series. Have you thought about the Suzuki Bergman style of bike that would be easy to mount as in not having to throw a leg over it.that type of bike is very well balanced and powerful enough to make progress, Yamaha max is very similar.dont confuse these bikes with scooters,I appreciate them,my ride at the moment is busa but l know it's got to go sooner or later before l loose my license or kill myself.

Quite a lot still in my shed.

Reminds me of the divvy, something that you would have to throw a leg over and balance more than say a tmax style bike.

Is the first one a r90 s trev

No R80 800cc 55 bhp high compression ,best and most flexible engine they built thats why police used them as no gear changing in traffic unlike the bigger 1000 cc,only 8000 miles on the clock and stored over 30 years

Love the bantam think it was every youths first bike .my first was a Frances Barnet 125 .then a big 150 bantam. Then a AJS 250 .then the japps took over .

No bantam there,bmw 800 r80,c15 250 star and enfield 350 bullet.

The problem I find is insurance,

having taken my moped test, motorcycle test and car driving tests not that long after decimalisation insurance is still so expensive where I live, it is cheaper to insure a car rather than a 125.

For me a 125 is a kind of petrol powered mobility scooter, just right for riding out into the countryside visiting canals and rivers very early on a Sunday morning during the summer.

Thought it was a C15, my first motorbike migrated then to a A10SR which is now in a shed in a partially dismantled state......one of those projects........☹️

I understand where you are coming from Oppy :( .. I have considered the Suzuki Bergmann, they do different engine capacities, but difficult to wrench myself away from my bikes.
I used to have the 1150 RT, nice on long journeys, but not fast enough for my Germany jaunt.
I now have a sick K1200S, K1300S and my daily commute a Bandit 600 (1999). The Bandit can be bought quite cheaply and I have found it to be a more reliable bike than the BMWs.
I have dropped it once, and parts were quite cheap, as long as it is not the fairing :(

Lots of improved engine bits these day for them, like full roller bottom end main bearings etc, time to start building and sell as pension back up plan.

My son's race KTM 125cc (motocross) is heavily modified and puts out just over 46 bhp at 11500 rpm. Not bad for a basic wee single cylinder. Mind you, piston change every 15hours, very quick but all mid/top end. Would be hard work on the road.

Bergman is a real useful maxi scoot , I had a 400 on the back of my RV , But they are not a light machine 210kg . It went real well , and can handle m/way speeds all day . Being auto they are very relaxing round town
I did notice that at real low speeds they can be a little "wobbly" but otherwise can corner very securely . Two full face helmets under the seat , I also had top box and panniers , so you can carry lots of gear . Its a fairly quick job to adjust the rear shock (underneath) .
