Hi fellow wilders

Does anyone have for sale, or can point me in the direction of a set of 14 inch wheeltrims? Standard car ones don't quite fit as they are too flat to fit on 1990 Renault Trafic wheels and the only specific van/ camper ones I've found are 15 or 16 inch.

Try these...

I had the same problem recently buying some 14 inch trims for the 1990 Talbot Express rims on our Highwayman.

I looked at loads and tried a few before finding some that fit (just)

They're from Halfords so your local one should stock them.

Halfords | Halfords Milwaukee 14 Inch Wheel Trims - Set of 4

They look ok on and if for any reason they don't fit there's no quibble taking them back?

That's fantastic they are identical to my old ones which I still have 2 of so I will also have a couple of spares woopee!! Thanks

Beware of wheel trims

I have now taken all of the wheel trims of my motorhome. The vehicle had a full service (including full brake check) at my local garage (well trusted mechanic) before we set off for Spain last winter. We had a full set of trims.

5km into Spain we heard a bang and thought we had a rear wheel puncture. Yes, we had a flat on the inner wheel, but the vehicle lurched over when we stopped and settled on the two loose rear wheels. The outer wheel had managed to move out against the wheel trim and rotated slightly which then cut the valve stem of the inner wheel. The trim them gave out and snapped its mounting on the stub axel. We had no wheel nut on the rear wheel. We had been shedding them unknown to us as we travelled down through France.

We had looked at the wheels regularly at each stop but the trim did not allow us to see the wheel nuts. This cost us two rims as they had been damaged in the process of coming loose.

Thank god we didn't loose one, (as the skirt retained them both) as it could have killed someone if it had hit them.

I have now decided to repaint the rims with "Steel Wheels" and fit the nut caps that waggons use to show if they have a nut going slack.

Fitted right hand ones to my Mercedes 1986 Autotrail very good fit very pleased with them

Hi David

I know that he did it properly. The local Mercedes dealer issues a notice every time they remove a wheel stating that the wheels should be checked again for tightness after a run and again after 100 miles. I knew this, but not having had a problem before I got complacent.

Yes it was the outer wheel rim that got past the stud ends and rotated. There was no wobble before this happened and we had looked at it and kicked it at Cap Bretton that morning. The trim was bolted firmly to the brake drum/hub centre, so held in place until it failed due to the pressure of the tyre against it.
