I have spent the past 2 hours going round and round the houses trying to sort out our camping and traveling arrangements to the Olympics next July.

What a complete nightmare.

We only got one venue which is the Lee Valley White Water venue but its proving a nightmare to get to.

I'd appreciate any suggestions from anyone familiar with the area before i slash my wrists.Wilding definitely won't be an option in london during the Olympic period :(

The only campsite I can see that is near enough to walk or cycle from is Theobalds Park Campsite but it will only let you enter the booking site if you are a member of the camping and caravanning club. Naturally we are members of the Caravan Club grrrr
It says non members welcome yet you have to join up to get on the site which costs £49.00 !...:mad2:

It looks like they don't have a site of their own and the C & C C club ain't going to let you see anything unless you pay £49.00

We are traveling up from Somerset on the 30th staying overnight as close to the lee valley White water site at Waltham Abbey . Travelling to the Lee valley centre on the morning of 31st July then staying over that night and travelling home 1st August .

found a site in lee valley within 6 miles.
What a riffoff.:mad1:

£72.00 for 2x nights with EHU because its Olympic week. I was hoping to book a week but not at those silly prices

I had to pay fully in advance (non returnable) too which is unheard of. Looks like some London campsites are really capitalising on the Olympics.

connaught waters

there is a large car park at cannaught waters chingford about 7 miles from w abbey no problem parking stayed there
many times when i lived in london

The way I would do it is stealth camp not in London but in a place near an outlying tube station eg Epping. There will be free parking on some roads. It may be a fair walk to the tube, but you will save a packet. Don't buy a camp site pitch you will get ripped off in a major way.

There is plenty of on street parking around Hertford & Ware. If you head just outside you can find various laybys in a more rural setting.

However from various on street parking you can walk to the station and get the train to Waltham Abbey. Although if you have bicycles I can highly recommend the cycle down the Lea Valley to the white water course and it is easily doable.

we've already booked a site (see second post )which is just a short cycle away .

I think it would be extremly unlikely that anyone would be allowed to wild camp near to a Olympic venue in Olympic week . I would expect security to be particularly stringent wouldn't you ?

Anyway having spent several hundred pounds on tickets I wouldn't risk being moved on in the middle of the night by the Police and having nowhere safe to park the van all day whilst we are at the venue.
