Hi everyone, I have only just found this website-and only just bought a VW transporter autosleeper(mid 80's one) .Can anyone give me advice, is my motorhome likely to be reliable? (it looks great)also I have loked at many of the threads with local (to me) wilding areas.... are the odds good for not getting booked (parking tickets)if I go to the ones with good feedback.... I know this sounds a bit daft but I really am new to this. One particular area I had in mind was Benlech(Anglesey) but there seems to be conflicting views on this (don't mind paying a £5 fee if its risk free) another is Cleveleys- but I seem to remember seeing signs prohibitting motorhomes? Like I say any avice would gratefully recieved - would prefare a safe bet and pay a small fee rather than be embarressed- thanks

If it's a diesel, make sure the cam belt has been (or is) changed on time.

Welcome V-dubber

Generally reliable but keep to your yearly servicing, oils, filters n fluids and check anti freeze through the winter. Friends experience was wee top ups o water after long runs due to slight leak n then frozen n broke engine last winter! No the best time o year for an outdoor engine swap! Also major point is change the gearbox oil, good chance it's no been done in last 10 years if at all and though it's one o tho cursing, knuckle knocking experiences, it's major piece of mind (replaced one last month due for very reason, an hours faffin n £15 in oil is a lot cheaper than a second hand one). Leave off handbrake when stood for periods o time if possible n try n grease any linkages etc. Big bowl o salt on floor is great to to keep van dry through the winter months too.
That said for all the camper luv Toxic gets she did throw a hissy fit at my attentions to others campers and decide to run like a bag o spanners this weekend and decide she wants a new starter motor! Wet day for me......

Argh , Toxic is due luv!

Oh well, damp n miserable day! Toxics poss blown a crankshaft seal, this explains a deceased starter full of oil and runnin like a bag o spanners on the way home. Compression test and a visit to GSF, looks like the bathrooms takin second place this week!
