Vintage original Pneumatic Igloo Tent from Europleasure. Bought in the sixties, this tent has travelled extensively around the UK and Europe. The tent always attracts attention where ever she goes, and as such would make a great addition for classic car shows, bug jam and the like - the coolness and vintage-ness and also somewhere to sleep!

How it works - the poles inflate using a standard car tyre pump and the canvas is stretched between them. Simples, 5 mins of vigorous pumping (or no effort at all with a 12v pump) and your tent just then needs pegging into the ground, then you can relax with a beer! Once up it is very stable, and doesn't come down or snap in high winds like normal tents. When your ready to go home, just let the air out and roll up, I can pack the tent away on my own in less than 5 mins. The tent was waterproof last year, but I'd recommend waterproofing it every year to preserve it.

The fly sheet over the top ventilation is in place, as is the original release valve cap. The original dust cap from the inflating valve is missing but this doesn't affect it's use.

Included is the original instruction leaflet, rather humorously called "erection instructions", which tell you how to unpack, inflate, deflate and pack your tent, and also how to care and repair it.

It really is a beautiful tent, such fun to camp in and always a talking point. Easy to inflate and pack it's the perfect tent to go with a VW Beetle or classic sports car.

The tent has a sixties repair that was done not long after the owner bought the tent, you can see on the tent peg bag the square he cut out to use. This is still a working repair after all those years, and doesn't need any attention yet.

The tent also has a few stains on (oil etc) which actually adds to the look of a nearly 50 year old tent!!

I would like collection only, but would be willing to send by courier - I'm guessing this would be £20 - £30 due to size and weight.

Any questions please ask...

I am sure these are still made by Karsten. They were a couple of years ago anyway.
They first made them in the 50's for the military. I had a very large one used as a field medical reception centre, in Cyprus and the Arasbian Peninsula. Greath ot put up and take down in a hurry but murder in a sand storm:wacko:

I borrowed one of these in the 70's off a relative, but it eventually had a leak and came down in the middle of the night! A few years I asked at a tent shop and they said they had stopped making them, but....

they're are some modern inflatable tents on the market these days... but will any of them last as long as this one?

Igloo Tent. Memories.

I had the Igloo tent and used it on many camping trips. The sides were dark blue and I think the front and back were orange. I remember falling asleep on a sunny afternoon after having Piriton pills for hay fever. We were in Cornwall on a really sunny day, near an airforce base and I remember hearing planes flying over. I woke up, no specks on and was slightly drowsy due to the piritons and I was facing the blue side of the Igloo. I remember calling out to my companion "wow", look at all those vapour trails in the sky. I then rolled over and realized that the "vapour trails" were dry grass on the blue side of the tent! Still makes me smile.
I originally used a foot pump to inflate the igloo and that was really hard work I then bought a gadget that replaced one of the spark plugs in the car. Start the engine and it was pumped up in seconds. I had it for many years, once in Holland lots of other larger tents were blown away in some really strong winds. The igloo performed really well and would always command attention due to the small number around. I never spotted another one. Never had to repair any of the "inner tubes" but it should be really easy to slide them out to do a puncture repair. I had a Fiat 500 with trailer, an Austin Healy Sprite and Lotus Europa, how could we possibly pack enough for a weeks holliday? Great design, built in ground sheet, mesh flyscreen, and roof vent. Great to see this ad it brought back many memories. I was certainly young then but must have been slightly mad.
I remember they were very well made and very expensive, £40 rings a bell.
If the person who buys this one has half the fun I had it will be a bargain.

Glad it brought back some memories - and don't if it was your comment that helped but it has now been sold!!! So cheers :)

an even older igloo from the pneumatic tent company

I've just put our vintage pneumatic tent on ebay, in case anyone's interested:

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Even if not, you might like to see the photo - it's an environmentally-friendly green.

Comparing the labels, I think mine must be a little older, dating from before the Pneumatic Tent Company was taken over by Europleasure.

OK but your Post and packing is way over the top. This item could be shipped for less than a tenner. I would not bid for that reason alone.
I ship a lot of stuff from e bay (Over ten thou sales) larger and heavier than your tent, and all for less than that.

Oooh memories we had one of these when we were first married and they are great accept when you've had a few and forget to lift your feet up on entry :lol-053::lol-053::lol-053: your head ends up on the floor the other side :lol-049::lol-049::lol-049:

Apologies, but I'm not trying to make a profit on shipping! That should be clear from the ad, which already includes the alternative of (free!) collection from Musselburgh. The price quoted was for Royal Mail parcel post, which has just gone up from 15.86 to 21.80 for weights of over 10 kg. If there's a reliable cheaper alternative, please advise.

Smutty mind

Am I the only dirtbag that pmsl at the unfortunate branding of this item. It would be a nightmare to describe in a game of charades...to quote....."requires 5 minutes of vigorous pumping" following the "erection instructions" of this quality product from "EUROPLEASURE". Had it been made by a name like Kangol I'm sure smut mode wouldn't have kicked in....honest!
