we first used the aire at manta rota in march 2009 it hadn’t been open long and it’s 100 spaces were about 50% full we have visited 4-5 times over the years and it has become more crowded year on year, this year the site is full to bursting only 3-4 spots a day changing over although the bays are huge 10meter hardstanding ones they are being dwarfed by the lorry based conversions using them each with a trailer and car, a little dethleff tag axle like wully’s is almost the minimum , you can understand the logic of people this site costs about £100 a month to park on with unlimited water and sewage electric available as an extra and a lovely town alongside with bars restaurants & shops , all this on a lovely long beach as a positive the police are being very relaxed about people parking outside on the car park with 20-30 vans there most nights,

Ugh!

Sounds totally bloody awful to me.
Too many dreadful people in one place.
We like to be alone.

Just think if there’s a hundred vans in there that means 100 places elsewhere up for grabs all the nice wee spots like you were on last week I’d rather be out and about than stuck in the middle of 100 vans.

It was much better when it was a wild camp place.

like so many of the old places . spoilt for ever.
good job new places come about though.
some that didnt seem so quite desirable years ago seem much better these days .
some times you can think its all finished . but then you find another great place to have a night or two.

it’s still a lovely spot and not really crowded like the french aires and although these huge beasties are not a new phenomenon the numbers of them parked up for so long is i’m staying around to watch england wales rugby saturday then moving on

Sadly something we are going to be seeing more and more as time goes on AND more and more folks publicise locations on T'interweb....

True of both 'sites' AND wild camping spots....

Victims of our own success indeed.

You’re right it’s a hard one I’ve got a few wee places up the west coast with room for one van that I’v been using for years always find one of them usable when I go up that way but if I put them on internet then I might be shooting myself in foot so don’t mind telling somebody I know face to face or in a message it feels a bit selfish using poi on here and not adding them wonder how many people do this.

I have added to the poi's but I keep schtum on my 'special' places which are just for me.

most people if they are truthful keep qt about good nuggets ....and perhaps share on trust ,,,\I for one wouldn't advertise the fact POI admin swoops and says thanks when it wasn't for general circulation tells the tale Sorry Chris that is not a dig and I am honest enough to say rather than hide the fact like the other 99 %,,so I for one reluctant to openly share ...you may think that selfish but more reflective of the membership either way wont lose any sleep

We were impressed by the Manta Rota aire. We too remember the olden days, when there was an open manhole and the chance of that showers being open. Life was simple and we were exploring both the country and the lifestyle.

We get stir crazy, after 3 nights, if wildcamping, it's necessary to move on, anyway.

For less flexible, unadventurous or more timid motorhomers, this form of campsite makes sense. For us, a couple of nights would be enough, though.

So saying, we need couple of weeks R &R, In a nice, convenient place, away from the temptations of the Santa Catarina fleshpots. We're staying put, especially as the weather's too cold to be forced to sit outside, drinking with the neighbours.

We're on a similar setup, at Rota. Bland, but convenient.
