Vets

Hi,

We are going to france soon, by ferry Dover to Calais, could anyone tell me where to find a good vet near Calais to take my dog for her blood test before returning.

Paige Jaune - the French Yellow pages will save you a lot of grief - take you own worming and flea treatment in unopened packets and they should use them if you ask nicely - saves a bit of money
Also, the further that you are from Calais the more affordable the Vets will be

We used a vet in Trier last time - much cheaper than anywhere around the port. Try the ads in caravan club/ ccc mags.

I presume you mean 'worm and tick treatment' and not blood test?

We used the vets at Forges les Eaux last year and found them very efficient and a reasonable price (58 euros for 2 border collies). We did not take our own treatments. As the previous poster indicated - find the contact details on Pages Jaunes (search for veterinaires and then Forges les Eaux)

We stayed on the aire in town and its about a 15 minute walk to the centre and the vets.

i used dr ferme dr messien dr norel vets at 73 rue astride briande 621000 calais 0321349388 very good spoke englisg 40 euros its behind hotel de ville town hall by park

In Boulogne sur Mare is a store called "Brico Depot", a French version of B&Q. They have a big car park and about half a kilometre away on the main road is a vet who speaks good English and will treat the dogs and sign and stamp the paperwork for about 40 euros. Also in B sur Mare is a ferry port where you can board after sleeping overnight in the car park! I can give you a map reference if you want and maybe even a phone number if I can find it.

Just to add that the UK is the only EU member state to insist on the flea and tick treatment.
It was supposed to be ending in 2010 but may have been extended to 2011; I'm not sure about this so don't take this as being correct.
I reckon the HM Government get a back hander off the French vets now that their parlimentry expenses are under close scrutiny :)
