Vets and Pet Passport

Many of you are going off on your overseas holidays and taking your best friends with you, I'm talking about dogs, and a trip to the Vet is required on the way back to Blighty.

Is there any chance you could give details (address, price, English spoken, opening hours, appointment needed) of the Vet you use if you would recommend them to other Pet owners so that I can add the Vet to the Google Map?

This could help others who prefer recommended Vets, rather than taking pot luck, and help others avoid the pricey Vets that do unfortunately exist abroad.

Why do dogs have to go to a vet before returning to the UK? Is it to do with worms?

I'm only asking as I am in Europe right now, with my little friend Scooter the cat. I did notice when leaving the UK that cats only need the rabies jab while dogs need rabies and also worm treatment.

Yes, a vet has to administer a worming tablet and stamp/sign the passport. We've had a vet stamp & sign without even seeing our dog though, so this system is pretty pointless. We were willing to take the dog in, but OH popped in to a vat nearby our stellplatz to get an appointment & they guy said he do it all then and there as we had our own worming tablets. He didn't charge us anything either.

In fact, he's the 2nd vet not to charge us for this.

I've just updated a table of antiparasitics for dogs which I originally produced for MH Facts several years ago, it's attached below. Hope you don't mind me adding it onto your thread Keith, thought it was an appropriate place.

It's written to help clarify things for people taking their dogs abroad, especially for the first time.
