You will pay a premium to see a vet in Calais, we have used one near Verdun twice now and get charged 45 ish Euro's including the "materials". Because you have to go between 24 and 48 hours before you cross back home we find it better to do it further away rather than spending time around Calais.

Were off to Germany in a couple of weeks and have decided to wing it and find a vet whilst were out there as we dont know where we will end up. If you do a google search you can find a list of instructions/questions for the vet in what ever language you need.

Lifted these from another forum so had no dealings with them, someone onthere asked a similar question.

Near Calais plage Aire

Leave the Aire, up to the roundabout, turn right carry on to the next one, straight over and its on your right just after the service road joins from the right. I reversed up the service road to park, plenty of room for vehicles to get past me. About a mile or less from the Aire if you fancy walking.

Ardes, about 8 miles from Calais.
You can park in the market square directly outside for free and its easily got room for an RV. If coming from Calais, go straight across the lights in the centre of Ardes and the market square is on your right. The vets is in the road that runs down the left of the market square.

In Holland the town halls had a list of vets. It is cheaper to do this away from the ports.
We have taken our own medication in the past and if it is still sealed the vets (reasonable ones) will use it - it is cheaper to buy online here (UK).

It's a bit of mucking about but far more preferrable than leaving the loves at home

We used the vet in Ardres, cost us over 60 euro for 1 dog. Spent night at port, was very entertaining watching the comings and goings of everyone. As we set sail we saw loads of campers parked to the left-as you sail out- near beach/pier thing.

We have used the vets at Forges-Les-Eaux a couple of times after recommendations on other forums. Cabinet Veterinaire Saint Nicolas. Vet Patrick speaks excellent english.

Excellent aire about 15 minutes walk from the town centre. In April we paid about 36 euros for our 2 border collies (we supplied our own Frontline and Milbemax). Last year we paid 58 euros without our own supplies.

If Forges is not on your route I would recommend searching on Pages Jaunes (french yellow pages) - search for 'veterinaire' in the town of your choice.

We're off with the dog for the first time for him. Can you please reassure me - we got the rabies innoculation in about December, a few weeks later he had his blood test that showed the right results and his passport, we've waited 6 months so now we can go and return safely (taking him to the French vet for the passport check and worming tablet, tick and flea treatment) - that's right, isn't it?

I'd have to give up work and stay with him if we couldn't bring him back.

I believe its 6 months from the (positive) blood test until you can return to the UK. You can go out anytime.

It is scary! We have done it twice now with the dogs but both times it has gone very smoothly. I think the rabies bit is the bit you need to be absolutely sure of - if the tick and worm treatment goes wrong it will only result in a short delay.

Look at the DEFRA website and ensure your vet has followed the instructions to the letter.

We also visit the vet just before travel to get the chips scanned to check they are still working.

It looks like the requirements will be changing in the near future which may make life a little easier.
New rules mean it will be easier and cheaper to travel abroad with pets « Defra News
