Very nearly seduced

Hi everyone.
We are getting ready for our first adventure this year with my now ageing self build Ducato LWB. Off to the Lake District over the Easter weekend, and I'll spend a couple of hours fishing the beautiful Watendlath Tarn, to try and catch two fresh rainbow trout to later fry in garlic butter and a little oil. I always fry outside of the van or it smells for days. My wife loves fresh fried trout.
Well anyway, I decided to take my wife to Brownhills yesterday, purely as an interesting afternoon to look at motorhomes. We don't like the idea of fixed beds because they reduce the living area so much and ours folds up.
We happened upon a van that we both just fell in love with as soon as we stepped into it, a Fiat Rapido 7068. It had a huge circular seating area at the back with windows on each side, and we could just picture the views and comfort among the mountains somewhere, sat there with a glass of wine as the sun decended on a summers evening in the Highlands. To the front and past the kitchen and bathroom, there was a dining area with 4 seats also. So much space. 3.8 tons of motorhome, 2006 model, but with less than 6000 miles. Absolutely mint. It had a massive awning almost the length of the vehicle, with zipped sides and front addition. The salesman Joe seen our enthusiasm and offered to take a sizable chunk off the price if we bought it. We sat down with figures and we decided we wanted it but would consider carefully over the weekend.
Later upon reflection, my wife didn't like the idea of £400 a month over 10 years and asked me to keep the little campervan.
Wow, I dreamed about this van last night and I'm still not convinced which way to go. An interesting Saturday afternoon!

That works out at £48,000!!!:eek::eek::eek:

You sure you still want it? Could travel a long way for £400 p.m.

I'm in the same boat - do I keep the old Pug or spend similarly over 10 years. At the moment, the Pug/cash in pocket is winning.

Got a terrible bed though. Even with cushions being decent and 2 memory foams, one on top of other - I can still feel the wood!

Got back/hip ache 2 weeks after last sleepover. Gotta think of a new plan......

Sorry

Don't want to go off thread so gonna start another one but when you find the ideal let me know.

for how much i reckon vans cost to change i'd opt for having a mattress custom made!

It's definitely heading that way. - But as in the poster of this thread, I can't stop looking at the lovely new ones......

SLAP ME QUICK AND SAVE ME!!!!!!!!

i remember a few years ago , i went to a dealer for a wastemaster and came out with a new Avendale tugger.:rolleyes:

dunk

I WENT 3.1/2 YEARS AGO FOR A BROKEN FRIDGE CATCH REPLACEMENT AND CAME BACK WITH CARPE DIEM.:( but i have never regretted it. It has a fixed bed, which again I would never have a van without one, The best lounging available.:):)...........but £400 a month:eek: ....for 10 years:eek::eek::eek:.... I would rather have tent on a roof rack.

Thanks for the comments guys. We've decided on another option. I'm going to take advantage of the present commercial van market and buy a newish van for about 10k and start a new self build to complete for this time next year, but a much more professional build than my last one. I'll be able to reuse a lot of the stuff that I strip out of the old one such as eberspacher, leisure batteries, mains electric unit, toilet, etc.

This sounds like a creative and cost-beneficial solution.

Good luck with your new-build project.
