Van Ladder

I'm looking for a cheap rear door ladder but would consider a side ladder (if they're still legal?)

My neighbour is a welder and offered to make me one but i think a heavy steel ladder is a bit OTT and may well damage the back door.

hi, get your neighbour to do it in a nice tube or maybe in stainless easy for him and possibly he knows where to get it galvanized if done in mild steel. i got given an old loft ladder made a good one for on my trailer. few bits of alu brackets you could think it was a purpose made jobby. if you make it on the back doors you could easily adapt it for carrying bikes etc. if need be . never know. best try and mount it on the hinges of van on one side if you can. we did one for my mates ldv worked great.
cheers alan.

Thanks Alan,

He said he could make one from flat bar and round bar and paint it, cost for materials would be around £30ish. I felt mild steel would be too heavy for the van door but as you say if it can somehow be attached to the hindges it may be worth considering.

I think a nice light aluminium one would look better though. Im hopping I can pick up a secondhand one for around £50.

we normally use thickwalled tube. bends on the ends then flat steel. whats itgoing on . some like the bongo just hook over at the top . the weight holds it with just a couple of fixings near the bottom. in alu for a bongo talk 150 quid.mind its not very often i ever buy things like that. alwaysake my own. look at the ones for sale then go home n make it.keep your eyes on the local dump things do turn up . i once drove skips nearly turned my garden in to steptoes yard. bit like it now.
cheers alan.
