HI,
Updated list of 64 Pubs / Inns where you can stay overnight for the price of a meal, or drink. The ones published below are ones that I have used over the years. As mentioned previously there are bound to be errors, perhaps locals could correct these and amend & resubmit. Thanks. Still waiting on “The Drift Inn, Seaton Burn”. A month ago it was up for sale when we stopped overnight. Google map refs are approx. Remember that with x amount of pubs closing each week, what was OK yesterday, may not be OK tomorrow, always check first.

appreciate the work you have done here but it is difficult to see where each location is. Any way of getting them onto google maps so it is visual?
 
the old bull and butcher at ryton has closed down yet again

The Green dragon at Hardraw has gone upmarket, as far as know, can no longer be considered "wildcamping"

on my next update unless I hear differently. Any news on The Drift Inn yet?

ive found that if you ask any pub in any town if its ok to over night in the carpark 99% of them say yes no problem
and are friendly
nowing your going to spend money in there pub on a meal or few drinks
 
I think your right chopper, Im always ashamed to ask, usually get the wife to ask..

We've only been refused once, no idea why, they just said no...

A couple of times they have said that they are not supposed to allow it but if we parked in a corner it would be OK.

Mostly it's been no problem at all. One, the Swan at Alvington, has become a favourite stop on our way back from South Wales.

Hi, Just wanted to say thanks for the list of pubs that'll allow a van overnight. Theres something marvelous about knowing theres only a short amble back to one's van after last orders for a nightcap before bed. Aah happy days !!! Cheers, Stuart.;)

Thanks for the list and the work you've done in compiling it.
All the years I've driven past the Jamaica Inn, never thought to ask about overnighting there, will definitely give it a go next time I'm that way. Do they still have Mr Potters Museum of Curiosities there?? :) :)
 
Reading the replies to the original post. Someone had commented on the how useful it would be to have them on Google Maps. It is very easy to do yourself if you have a Google Mail account. Log in and then create your own map and name it appropriately. Cut and paste in turn the co-ordinates as they are displayed on the first letter into Google Maps then use the option to copy each coordinate to your own map and name each one as the name of the pub/restaurant, annotating as required. Save the whole lot away and open as required. You can share the map or keep it for friends who you send the url too.
Hope all of this is clear. It is easier to do than to write down.

My old mate Mark owns the Green Dragon at Hardraw. Have you asked if you can camp, it's not like him to turn down a shilling, cheers,

Last week I stayed at the Halfway Inn, Dunwear, Nr Bridgewater. Very friendly locals and landlady. She has just had electric hook ups installed or the price of this but I had a good time there, all for the price of my meal ! Excellent value for a fiver or so
 
Just to say that the Green Dragon charges £10 per night, we went to folk weekend in May and parked in the car park - they even demanded a £10 returnable deposit - as 2 OAPs I don't know what they thought we would get up to!! Also the whole weekend was to raise money for Cancer Research but it seemd to be raising money for the pub!
 
oh sorry forgot to ask if any of these pubs are by a river??? Well that would be ideal for him and of course with a folk club for me!!!
 
They ask for a returnable deposit because in the past they have had some problems with people lighting fires, loud music, etc but it's been about 5 years since I've been there. And under the old management it was only £2 a week pp (Mon-Fri) up it's gone up market now.

Can confirm Ramsholt Arms in Suffolk - Field at top of hill, pub at bottom on the river - superb location, superb food.
Will try Swan at Alvington and possible Jamaica Inn on next trip (starting Friday 24/7/09) and report back.
 
Hi Carol - yes Ramsholt Arms in Suffolk - superb location - not sure about folk club.
 
Just a thought, with all these country pubs closing who would have the authority to move you on if you decided to overnight on a redundant pub car park? I've passed 3 this afternoon!!
