I am a smarty customer.
The unlimited everything deal is now £18 a month. No contract. It just renews each month.
Bargain!

I cancelled my good deal with Vodaphone (£18 for 110 gig per month) at the start of lockdown. Once we get moving again I’ll be looking at a substitute and was considering Smarty for the MIFI. However since our UK destination of choice is Scotland what is Smarty reception like there and in other rural areas? Vodaphone wasn’t too bad, maybe not as good as EE, but not much use going for a cheap deal if it doesn’t get reception.

It's on the three mobile network
I find it's quite good but not been to Scotland

I've been with Smarty for about 5 months now and been really impressed, I'm on £10 for 30 gig/month and use it in a Hauwei 5330 mifi unit works great abroad aswell.

I'm with Three and looked at changing to Smartie. The problem is the Three reception isn't good at home, but that is compensated by being able to use the WiFi phone system on Three, but it isn't available with Smartie. This also applies to the local Wetherspoons, where reception is poor so without there WiFi I wouldn't get the call from SWMBO telling me its time to come home. Perhaps Smartie might be a good buy!

Both me and the wife are on Three and i`ve been with them many, many years, not quite from the start and predominantly for going abroad.

I introduced the wife about 3 years back and more recently our son, daughter and son-in-law to Three through the member only " Exclusive Treats " they used to do now called " Exclusive Customer Offers ".

After some clever negotiating ( diplomatic is my middle name o_O ) i got my Unlimited Data, Texts and Minutes plan down to £13.48 per month and the wife`s 12GB Data, Unlimited Texts and Minutes plan down to £10 per month.

The kiddies being all grown up can do their own haggling after i got them what was very good deals to start with but i think they need to stay few years with Three then they can use that as ammunition to get a better deal which does actually work despite what other people say.

Do you have any problems with data limits abroad? Also can you get iPlayer and suchlike? I know Vodaphone uses a uk IP address and no limits, so not a problem with either.

I`m afraid the no roaming limits with Vodafone finished a while back and you are capped at 25GB per month.

3rd section down headed Share when you`re there.

The "Uk IP address" just means that BBC iplayer and the like will work 100%
(no need for VPN)
But as in the previous post data is limited

hotukdeals list offers every week for sim only deals, I have posted links in the past but it is probably better to look through them yourselves for the best one for you

Slightly cheaper than Three, by about £2 to £4 per month. But my goodness, you lose out on Smarty!

The IP address you get is not public routeable one, as you get on Three. Not a big deal for many people, but if you are monitoring anything in your van, you can use ddns on Three, but not on Smarty.

More significantly, I found that on Smarty, each time I connected I was allocated an IP address, and within a minute or two, it switched to the next IP address up, leaving any ftp or ssh connections just hanging until they timed out.

Then a minute or two later, it switched back to the first IP.

Smarty support were unable to help, just reiterating that "you don't get a fixed IP on Smarty" - I didn't expect a fixed IP, but I did expect a stable IP.

I was able to return the sim card for a refund (I hope: the refund is due soon at the end of the first contracted month).

Smarty's unlimited calls and text deal with up to 3GB of data for £8 per month is excellent value.
You get up to £3 back each month if you don't use your data allowance. So that's unlimited calls for a fiver a month!

I reckon that the Smarty unlimited data offering is so inferior to Three's that it's not worth the tiny saving.

I've been with Three from the beginning and find I can negotiate a reasonable deal. I'm currently getting unlimited calls and texts with 4gb for £7. Ironically I rarely use more than 1gb, which they offered for £5 but it's only money.

We have an old contract with Vodafone 100gb which they keep asking me to upgrade, mine includes the full 100gb data allowance abroad, if I changed it would go to 25gb

We live in Scotland and both my daughters are on the 30GB package with Smarty and they are completely happy with it; they have never had a problem.
