Unfriendly/Unwelcome Blacklist

I'm not sure if it's just me, or maybe at this time of year we are all out and about, and therefore noticing it more, but is everywhere becoming more unfriendly?

In light of the earlier threads:
No Overnight Parking - Scotland (Kontiki)
Scarborough Closing (Chrissy)
Don't they want our money (DerekfaeBerwick)

Where have you been lately where you had problems or felt unwelcome? Was It just the local village idiot or was it the council or local bye laws?

I'd be interested to know because if the same places keep croping up they obviously don't want my money and I won't waste diesel getting there!

It's all such a contrast with France, Germany and Europe in general,
very sad.:(

How about the New Forest? I'm sure there are places to park if you know the area well but I got the impression it wasn't camper-friendly with rangers patrolling :(

Well yes, you're probably right, but, ask yourself "would I want that parked where I live?". Thats the problem in the Summer, everyone wants to be where its nice. It leads to overcrowding and often inappropriate parking.

Agree

I completely agree that everyone wants to be where it's nice but that includes hordes of other motor vehicles, 4x4's, vans, large and small cars, but who's really going on about all those that are parked inappropriately on grass verges, dangerously and illegally blocking views for emerging vehicles at junctions etc and parking in coach bays and across white lines in car parks taking two bays (and not paying for two). I don't believe that the police have to put out no parking cones at attractions for MH owners - no, it's for all the cars that would gladly park dangerously and inconveniently for others if they had the chance. We don't seem to be getting a fair deal in this. It's not even being played on the same game board IMO.

It's just that we stand out and are a little more noticeable so as with most prejudices we are picked on more just for being out of the norm.

Chrissy (oooh I could rip a tissue)

well spoken crissy. i think the same its because we are so big that we are noticed more. i own two cars and as you say some car. vans do park stupidly but nothing much ever done to them

me and the wife are away most weekends through the year we have a ford transit motor home just on the border of parking in a bay??if it's the right bay:rolleyes:this year we have only payed 3 times the rest of the time we have free loaded:cool:only once have we been asked to move or told which ever way you want to look at it :confused:that was in scarborough and because a knob head set up camp with table chairs kids on bikes and a charcoal bbq all this on a saturday afternoon on the life boat car park:eek:so what do people expect

Didn't you know: We are all 'binfillers' that empty our waste over sea walls and choke everybody with BBQ smoke and exhaust fumes! We take up 2 parking bays at super markets and throw fag butts out of our windows. We all keep nasty, vicious dogs in our vans and spit at people. We 'hog' the road and cause queues of traffic by deliberately driving slow on country roads etc. We are all old fogies who shouldn't be driving a big vehicle and should be made to take an eye test. whats more we are all thieves and tramps, who don't pay any taxes! We all smell because we don't have a proper bath or a washing machine. we all live on 'benefits' and probably 'shoplift' most of our food. We don't have a TV license and we steal washing off peoples lines.
I think that just about covers it, don't you?
Paol.

You forgot driving off without paying for fuel! I regularly outrun police Subaru's in my Fiat Ducato:D

Hi, while some of the above comments are meant to be light hearted, we have all experienced people committing some of the offences mentioned by laughingheart, some of us have been parked up uncomfortably close to the idiots doing it. Continental Europe does have a more Laissez-faire
Attitude towards motorhomes,we are welcomed, but I also see far less abuse of this trust when abroad. Just possible there is a connection.

We're just back (having returned home a few days early due to a massive crack down the windscreen caused by a stone kicked up by a passing car).

Our holiday took us to Barra, South Uist, Benbecula, North Uist, Berneray, Harris, Lewis and the far north west of Scotland (Ullapool, Scourie, Durness, Kinlochbervie, Poolewe, Gairloch) and didn't feel unwelcome anywhere - quite the reverse in fact.

The only section of road I'd have struggled to find a wild camping spot on would be the road into Kinlochbervie from the main road - and that's not really a road you'd generally want to wild-camp on as there are much better options either north or south on the main road or on the road to Oldshoremore or Sheigra.

The campsites were a good bit busier than normal of course, but still not a problem that we saw.
