Ultimate bad manners?

Two Hymers have been parked just down from me for a couple of days. Walked dog past them, general chat and the usual things...they commented on seeing my van in my drive.
Had to go out yesterday, briefly, to the local village while they, obviously assumed I was going 25 miles to the nearest town.
Came back, unexpectedly for them, to find both in my drive (it's a farm gate entrance) happily filling their tanks from an outside tap.
When I pointed out that they could have asked me earlier in the day, I was accused of "giving van owners a bad name" and not "supporting wild campers", eventually they moved out.
Looked in my wheelie bin this morning while emptying rubbish to find they had also taken that over including bottles, cans and baby's nappies.
Wish I had noted their registration numbers, both were UK. registered.

this is not a van owners thing or wildcampers it total ignorance and theft:mad:

so trespassing on private land without asking isn't "giving van owners a bad name" ??? some seen to think the more they pay for a motorhome the less manners they needs, as we've come to notice that the newer MH's seem to snub everyone and give you looks as to say "what are you doing in my spot that I've found??", but the older vans are happy to have a chat and wave as you go past, sad really as we're all doing it for the same reasons

Hi Sagart.
As you say What bad manners:mad::eek:
Most probably if they had asked you may have said yes,
Moving on, we were on Skye about a month ago and we wondered where you lived and would have liked to meet you:)

Would have had absolutely no objection at all, that's what really annoyed me.
As to "Where I live" and "meeting up", well, if anyone is in North West Skye I'm quite happy to help.
Except that, for business and family reasons, I am away from Sye from the 19th. for a couple of months. Can still access this site though to keep up to date

bad manners

phew
it takes all sorts don't it
as said it gives us all a bad name.
must be the same 2 i saw going to thornton-le dale. going through wilton parked cars on both sides of the road, saw these 2 hymers coming the other way so me thinks i'll give way, through they came not any sign of acknowledgment from either of them just kept on coming with blank expressions on their faces.
as i said takes all sorts

:p:D:cool:

hi simon before the flame throwers come out,let me say after years of motorhoming its not how new or old thier van is its a people thing you can never tell if your wave will be returned, the number of times i've said thats it i'll not wave again but i do:p

Steady on Simon, think you got that statement a bit wrong.
I will talk to and acknowledge anyone, young, old, new van, old van, rich, poor, makes no difference at all to a lot of people.
Here endeth the first lesson, don't tar everyone with the same brush.

Happy Camping:)

Can I say that firstly the original poster 'Sagart' doesn't say how old the Hymers were but new or old it was out of order and I would have locked the gates and charged them for theft. Secondly, Simong, why does it have to descend to a sweeping generalisation about "new van owners being ignorant" , my personal experience as a hymer owner is exactly the contrary, I used to wave to all motorhomers including the new age type (having been there done that) but was totally ignored.

they are life's spongers any thing going and take it. they were out of order taking your water on your land, like you say they could have asked where the nearest tap was. doe'snt matter if vans are new or old, i have given up waving as we pass unless they have given way to let us through, as we used to wave at every motorhome but as soon as we got on a site we got the cold shoulder, so why let on to someone who doe'snt care about you.

If any motorhomers old vans, new anyshape or form and are passing through shropshire and want water or help pm me and I will guide them in.
We are just off the M54, on one condition they also have a cuppa:D:D
or even just a cuppa and a cake  maybe:p:p

I think you were really unlucky with your visitors!

were not all like that!

Do i win a prize!!

Nothing new I'm afraid, when I ran a Youth Hostel in the 1970s it was quite common to have people in the gardens during my time off (10:30am to 4:30pm) having a picnic or knocking on the door wanting to access the toilets - 90% of the time they had nothing to do with the YHA.

Peter Mayle comments on people using his garden in the Luberon for picnics, in his book A Year in Provence.

I agree and please do not think we are all like that in the UK.

Hey like your Yorks badge and glad to see it's right way up - you will notice that on Leeds United their Yorks badge is upside down.

(It must be able to make a Y out the of the points)

we were up your way last week, we stayed the night in front of the old trailer at Caltrigill, we were looking for the Piping museum, but never found it, but we had stunning views, and a visit from 4 deer too.
Are you anywhere near there.
Cheers, Pete.
