Today in an indie tyre fitters having some work done, the tyre fitter/owner, who was a VERY chatty person told me that Insurance companies were not accepting claims for damage for blow outs if the tyre was older than 5 years. first I've heard of it. (I wasn't in my MoHo so he didn't know the age of my tyres)
Any know of this ?

Load of old cr-p, we have been over this before, may come about in future mind you if ins co can find a way out they will.

Rubbish, I had a blow out on the M6 near Preston.
My car struck the central barrier, causing £9,000 worth of damage.
Direct line paid for repair no problem.
So long as you abide by the rules involving tyre wear and age there will be no problems.

£9000?
Exactly how many yards of barrier did you manage to damage? ;):p

Tyre Firms will Have to do some Lobbying to get that passed  but anythings possible

Bill scratched the front bumper and cracked an indicator lens. Anything to do with MH's is expensive Mark.

Believe it or not Ral, I had just picked the car up, a 1 year old merc c220 estate, from Mercedes of Birmingham. I was enjoying taking my new car up to Scotland when all he’ll let loose. I was doing 70 when I lost control on the M6 near Preston. The whole of the off side was damaged, and the off side suspension was mangled. Merc recovery took me to their Preston garage who did the repairs. They loaned me a brand new E class salon that I had for a month before they sent my car to me and took their car back on the vehicle that had brought my car back to me. Here’s a couple of photos of the return. And the damage .

I forgot (importantly :giggle: ) to mention that he was referring to Motorhomes with tyres over 5 years. It was a condition on some ins policies.

Not sure how long that will last when challenged, hope whoever has been told this has got in touch with their tyre manufacturer.
Conti state 10 years for my tyres with yearly inspections after either five or seven years (can’t remember figure), obviously so long as tread depth is okay.
They did the same with with refillable gas systems years ago and Chris at Autogas (May have been some others as well) challenged them and got it withdrawn
