Evening all
Looking ahead to our first trip to Europe which will be last week of November and fist week of December this year when we will be driving from Calais directly to Belgium for the Christmas markets, I'm fairly certain we don't need winter tyres ( 3 peaks)for Belgium, but France seems a bit ambiguous. Can anyone clarify for us please?
Thanks
Colin🙂

You’ll be fine without in Belgium ! But why not fit them and drop down into Bavaria,
If you need any pointers shout out we had a great time last year

Have to say we’re I going to the EU for the Christmas markets I’d be doing Cologne (I’m actually going to Brugge, but only 3 nights away)

Thanks all, that's appreciated. I'm assuming this is from a legal point of view, not just grip? 😁. If our plan comes to fruition, then we may venture further afield, if not then we'll only have time for Belgium.....then back to work ☹️ 😂

Don't think that Poster is accurate re France. There are several mountain regions where Winter Tyres (or Snow Socks or Chains) are mandatory from November to March, but France fudged the issue by not enforcing in Year 1 (2022 or 23?), then educating errant drivers, then I lost track of proceedings. I *think* full enforcement may be starting this year, but I am happy to be corrected. AFAIK, the affected Regions are mainly far south and some Eastern French areas. There is a French Government website which I think @TJBi mentioned (comparatively) recently in his post with the up to date requirements

There is a map showing the areas of France in which appropriate equipment for winter driving is required at https://www.securite-routiere.gouv....-en-voiture/equipement-de-la-voiture/nouveaux

No requirement in France on a direct route from Calais to Belgium.
