Tyres ....... Again !!!

Sorry folks, read as much on here but can't find an answer soooooooo :

Our new ( 2nd hand ) 2001 Autotrail Aparaho unfortunately requires 6 new tyres as although the tread is excellent, I failed to notice the small cracks in the side walls so am now liable to fork out for the replacement tyres ..... live 'N' learn eh!

My dilema is, having forked out a lot of money for our M/H, we are not in the position to fit Michelin replacement's at £960 fitted. I have discussed this issue on another forum site but want a fresh look to see what you think.....

.......... I am able to get a full set of Hankook RA 08's for £407 delivered then approx £11 per tyre fitted / balanced. For £56 more I can get Avon's but these are 113 rating compared to 116 of the Hankook's. I can find no write ups for the Avon's but lots for the Hankooks and also, Ford fit Hankooks as standard so weighing all the above up, cost ....... amount of use of M/H .......... Not going abroad in the foreseeable future ....... etc, etc ........ What do you fine Motorhome people think, right or wrong decision ??????

This is the comparison table I used and Hankook do far better than other more ' house-hold' named variates do !!
Motorhome Tyre Test Comparison

Thanks .......;)

Hankook have got a reasonably good reputation. Fair number of vehicle makers now fit them as original equipment.

My view is that if you do low mileages then its likely that your tyres will be out of date (6 years?) before you wear them out - sounds like that has happened to yours if they have cracks. So as long as you drive knowing that the tyres are not going to stick to vertical walls then cheaper tyres are not an issue.

Cheers Roger. Bitten the bullet and ordered a full set after speaking at length with the tyre seller + replies on forums etc. ;)

Hi
We replaced our michelin camping cars with Hankooks and are very happy with them, they're far grippier on the road, we get a more comfortable ride and i feel they're much better on grass etc.
Yes they wear faster but we don't mind as they inspire much more confidence in the wet and we've never been stuck even though others around-us have

regards...nige

Costco is the cheapest outlet for Mitchelin tyres in the UK, they fit tyres cheaper than ANY OTHER company in the UK can buy them for. they also do deals from time to time where you get another 25% off if you have 4 or more fitted.

What size do you need and I will get a price for you if you wish!

215 / 75 R16C 116/114S although my current Mich are 113/111 spec.
Thanks

Admin, thanks for your help but I have just been informed the Hankooks are out of stock !!! They have offered Kumho 857's which they assure me are every bit as good if no better so I have had to go for these as I need 6!

Anyone know of the Kumho 857's ?????? Be interested on any feedback please!:D

Admin, be interested to know how much you could have got them for if it's not too much trouble for you ?

Thats a handy tip ***** thanks I will remember that when I go for tyres next month!

***** do camping tyres work on the same princip[le as the 4x4 tyres where they are suitable for mud and road?

Hmmm wonder if they are similar to the hancooks that my son in law (tyre fitter) pout on my van..he said that normal commercial tyres are 6ply (whatever that is) but the ones he put on were 8 ply because the walls were stronger.

Hi
Have been looking for weeks to replace 4 new tyres. Have presently got michelin 225/75/r16 xc camping. Have read your thread and been inspired by the cost of your six new tyres etc.. Where did you get your prices from as we have looked on the internet and not seen such a good deal. Would appreciate
details of web site or phone number.
Many thanks and safe travelling.

tyres

another tip (maybe not for you this time) buy your tyres in Andora, theyre miles cheaper, tax free and they normaly have a muddy pool around the back to get them dirty so you don't have any customs problems.

I am just in the process of changing my front two tyres.. sizes are 215/70/R15 C RATING.

The cheapest i have found is a place in Cumbria (supply only) Hankook Tyres!

Cheap Tyres Discount Tyres & Japanese Import Car Parts Spares Tuning Performance Servicing Accessories :: just ordered two for around £52.10 inc vat. +postage is extra...check there website, they will aswell tell you the nearest dealers to you if you quote them your post code from the website.

These are RA08 which i think is 8 ply around the tyre wall.

Hope this info puts you in the right direction.

Its great when there's a site like this that helps you, and with other peoples advice makes it worth while being a member of the Wild Camping Club. :)
