TYRE PREASSURES? Help required

Hi all,

I have a 2007 Globecar Trendscout, LWB transit base, I would like to know what you would run the tyres at?

Thanks in advance.

Nick

load vehicle to maximum you will be running at

go to weighbridge and obtain total and axle weights [ check you are not over permitted weights as per the plate ]

contact tyre manufacturer [ any will do ] , tell them you have a ford transit [ not a motorhome ] and the tyre size , give them loaded axle weights and ask for correct tyre pressures

I am afraid that tyre manufacturers usually just give the maximum pressure the tyre is permitted when told it is a motorhome ...this is because most people are overloaded and have no idea what their axle weights are ...that will not be your position

I tend to run my lwb transit at 50psi and my luton at 55psi, so I guess providing you have commercial tyres on around 50psi would be ok

Thanks chaps,

Yes I run with 50psi in front, but 80psi in rear on a standard transit LWB the book say 68psi in rear loaded, but being van conversion I guess you would need the extra 12psi. What do any of you think?

As the second poster says - and has been said many times by responsible adviors - the only way is to get your rig in travelling mode, go to a weighbridge, weigh each axle and go on-line to check the manufacturers load tables for that size tyre. Don't ring anyone up and especially don't ask your local tyre bloke or any mate or any other motorhome owner. Do it yourself and do it right.

Even better is to weigh each wheel separately - first as a check that your rig is loaded properly (10% variation across the axle is about as much as you want to go) and second, it allows you to inflate both tyres on that axle to the pressure required to handle double the load of the heaviest loaded wheel.

If you are likely to fill the boot up with booze in Spain for a trip to morocco, then you need to increase the pressures in the rear tyres to compensate

BTW If your wheels are fitted with standard rubber tyre valve stems and you do run at 45psi or higher, consider replacing them with metal high pressure ones. Might save you the inconvenience of having three stems fail in a two-week period as happened to me a couple of years ago.

I have a Mk7 Transit motorhome.

The recomended tyre pressures are on a sticker in the door jam (passenger side I think).

I have a Lunar Pinnacle fixed bed model based on a Transit. The recommended tyre pressures are 51 psi front and 69 psi rear.
