Swmbo has signed the exeat, yet again, permitting the dog and myself to travel alone in the first weeks of March. My initial thoughts are a slow run up to the SW300 and a slow drive back to Pompey, weather permitting. Perhaps you have some thoughts?

Normandy is only a short ferry ride away.
The weather may be possibly better than Scotland.

I think not, with a twenty five year old van and a sixteen year old dog that doesn't have a passport. Having worked as a lorry driver doing European work I'm not in love with travelling back and forth across the Channel for fun.

Seriously I can think of nothing worse than giving Brittany Ferries good money to spend two weeks in a country with weather as bad as here without the benefit of being able to strike up a conversation if I'm bored of my own company. I appreciate that they talk funny in Scotland but as a Geordie I can just about understand them.

Park up at Port Solent.
Go no further.
Tell nobody.
With the money you save on fuel, you can live like a lord at Wetherspoons. , Using their toilets , especially if there's
no staff member behind the downstairs bar.
Buy one mug of refillable , bottomless tea or coffee, £1.35....Take it out with you and bring it back each time with you. . It should last you all fortnight.
No worries about bad weather, traffic jams or accidents.
If you fancy a change of scenery, drive to Tesco's.. You won't need to buy any, food for yourself,or bog rolls..
Use your bus pass to go to somewhere exotic, where you'd never normally go..
Gosport.
It's the answer, innit ?

It sounds like a good plan :)

Always go with plan A when you deviate that’s when it goes wrong besides the SW300 is a brilliant route much nicer than the NC500 enjoy.

As any passionate four legged friend owner knows, their safety and comfort always comes first and as you so very well know @antiquesam your faithful friend is only ever fully contented when he is in your company..................

As that is so very much the case, then I suggest you do with him exactly the same as I do with my 3 special friends (whom always come first in my/our decision making) and sit down with him and have a heart to heart chat and discuss the route you are thinking of. Rest assured, together you will come up with the very best plan which of course doesn't included going over the blessed English Channel, most especially in a boat!!
